weird pains

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery on Aug 10th and my first fill a few weeks ago. Ever since my fill I get horrible pains right above my diaphragm and in my upper back. It feels like I have a blockage in my esophagus. If I gulp a mouthful of Water it will go away but then I am still sore for a few hours. Is this a "stuck"? Am I not chewing enough. Please help. The pain worries me. I just want to make sure in ok.

Thanks

Calling your dr is the best advice, but I don't think there is anything wrong with people asking for others to share their similar experiences on this forum.

I don't read these posts as people seeking free medical advice. We are all in a new space with the lap band but some people are further along in their journey than others. Rather than worrying alone because we are experiencing something different, we come to this forum to see whether others have experienced the same thing.

I have certainly come here looking for information and asked questions in the period between making a medical appointment and being able to see my dr. I certainly would not appreciate being attacked for using this forum in the way that it is meant to be used.

Thank you SageTracey. I don't let people Like sanction bother me. She makes a lot if these rude posts.

SageTracey- I am not looking for medical advice, I just want to know if this is what they consider "stuck". I'm not up on all the lingo. Thanks for your help.

Good for you BB! I'm not sure if what you are experiencing is a stuck or not. Does it happen after eating or just not related to food?

I've only been stuck twice and both times through eating too quickly. I can feel the food sitting in my throat and I just know that's got to come back up, which it does. It feels very heavy and painful but the pain doesn't last too long. And I've learnt to slow down!

good luck

I would be surprised if it was a simple food blockage. Usually when food is stuck, you can't "push" it down with a drink, because it would just sit on top of the blockage, rather than move it along. But you never know, so I would call my doc. Better safe than sorry!

Thank you. Sounds like I am experiencing stuck food. I'll slow it down and tell my Dr. at my next visit.

Yes, this is what being stuck feels like. Learn from it. I have learned as I had fills along the way there are some foods I get stuck on no matter how much I chew. I no longer even try to eat those foods. There are other times i've learned this hard lesson with just simply not chewing the food I can tolerate enough. The band is a very crude tool when it comes to learning some of the basics.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
