dry.gif:rolleyes: Ok so i started the entry process in sept and finally have the approval to go to the main ino class where they let you know the process and you get a surgeon appt. The only thing is that I am strugging to loose the 10% that we need to before you get your surgery date. Mine I think is going to be about 30 pounds.....I am sure struggling with that. I do zumba 3 times a week. I just need to follow a strict diet I think ......uhhhhhhhhh... i want this but why is it so hard!dry.gif:(

my surgen only made me lose 5 pounds to have the surgery. Generally your surgen will give you a pre op diet to follow about 2 weeks before surgery

Hi and welcome to our forum

I am on a high Protein, low carb diet. They want me to get in at least 75 grams of Protein a day. Your servings should be done on a 6" plate. Half should be protein and the rest 1/4 vegies and fruits and 1/4 starch.

I had to lose 5% of my weight before it will even be sent to my ins for approval. It is generally about four to six months between your initial consultation and surgery. Mine is going to be about seven. I gained weight the first month so was one step behind.

I have learned a lot in that time that I feel will be useful in the future.

Hope you are able to go to a Center of Excellence. The quality of care has been just what it says, excellent.. I am very impressed with the way the clinic is run.

All the best to you,

Melinda

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
