This guy is an ass! He was fit and healthy and is now intentionally gaining as much weight as he can in 6 months so he can show he world how easy it is to get fit again in another 6 months. I take it an insult to every one of us who has struggled with our weight. Part of me hopes he's unable to lose it again and stays fat!

From when I read the article he said that he's doing it so he knows how to best work with his client. I think he's trying to see what its like in the persons shoes he's trying to help become physically active. Most fit people dont know what it's like to be overweight...how ARE they supposed to work with people who are if they don't understand those struggles. I think its a good thing....

It wont work, whatever his motives. Thinking you can simply gain temporarily to have the "fat experience" is insulting. He wont know what its like to live your life on the outer, to struggle for self esteem, self respect, that feelign that you wont EVER lose the weight. All he'll find out is how darn hard it is to move with the extra weight.

Even then, he's been superbly fit. He wont lose that in six months and his body wont lose the memory of its set point weight and fitness wise. The weight will come off easier for him that it will for someone who's been 400lb for 20 years.

Good on him, I think personally his heart is in the right place, but he's just showing how maligned and misunderstood obesity is in our society.

I, totally, agree. Nice try to think he can gain weight in 6 months and then take it off in 6 months. His body will loose, easily. First of all, he is young and fit, right now. 2ndly, he is going to do it all in 1 year! We have been struggling with weight all of our lives. Many of us for decades. I think that it is no different than the celebs who put on "fat" suits to experience the low self esteem and the insults from strangers. Karen

If that were true, he wouldn't be promoting himself on Leno. He's trying to make a name for himself so all the obese people of the world will flock to him for help and he can become rich and famous!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
