Anyone use the LapBand ID card?

Recommended Posts

I had heard about it from others and at my 2 week post-op appt, my surgeon gave me a LapBand ID card that can be used at some restaurants to order off the kids menu or order half an entree. Just curious about anyone who has used it and which restaurants recognize it. I guess I could just ask when I get there, but kind of wanted to know up front if it would be accepted.

My husband and I go out to dinner maybe once or twice a month and it would be nice to order smaller portions. That way we keep our bill low and don't have to drag leftovers home everytime.

Very nice to know. I will try and use mine. I have two children and thought I would just order a full meal and share with them but they NEVER want what I want.

I have a Realize band and we don't get a card like that, but I can't imagine using it anyway. When I go to a restaurant I order an appetizer, or I just order an entree and have the remainder boxed up so I can eat it again the next day. As is almost always brought up here, the foods on the kids' menu are usually not band friendly anyway.

The card also allows us to order half an entree from some places. At least that is what my PA told me. That is what I will choose most often. I don't want to have to box up my food each time I go out to eat. If I could just order half or 1/4 of the a regular meal, that would work better for me.

Used mine at Sweet Tomatoes last night and got to eat for the children's price (4.95). The girl who took our money was very nice and curious about the band and how it's working. It was so nice! All I had was Soup since i'm on the liquids stage, so I'm greatful for the discount! I think i'll be saving a TON of money on food!

This is good to know. Some reason I have a feeling that not many waitresses will know about this. I wonder if on the resturants websites? Got to check it out. Also not sure if kids menu as appealing then regular food menu. Since my husband will be banded too I think there will be lots of entree sharing in our future. :-)

Never use it. I always eat out with others who are happy to take some of my food. I would be terribly embarrassed to share my med info with a card to a server. Just kinda tacky too. It's not any business of the restaurant.

I was wondering about the card also. It was in the packet that was sent home with me from surgery. Good info to know!

I got my card in the mail last week and wondered about it. Curious though, CalicoskiesNC, what do you find tacky about it?

Never had a problem. My husband and I share all the time. My daughter and I do too! I can order off the senior menu and still have to take home or share with hubby. I don't like the"children's" menu food. I have never had to use my card. I just advise and they are very accommodating at most places. I do have a card, tho' Karen

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
