5 Days out and starting to feel better, but...

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

I am 5 days post op (banded 10/21/11) and today is the first day that I am starting to feel "better" . I returned to work on Monday and noticed that by noon I was feeling pretty lously, anyone else feeling bad by the end of the day? I guess what I am wondering is I also had a hernia surgery while they installed the lapband, could this be the cause for "hurting" more then what I thought?

I am doing well on the post op diet with the exception of the Protein Shake, the ones that I got are HORRIABLE, any one have any sugestions on changing them out?

Which Protein shake are you drinking? I like the EAS AdvantEDGE Carb Control chocolate Fudge, but I do not know anyone else who likes them. (My husband says they taste disgusting, maybe I am just used to drinking them).

I went back to work on day 5, and I did not have a hernia surgery, but I was still sore especially getting up and down from my desk. Walking around was easy, but getting out of my chair and sitting in my chair all day was agony. Every day it would get a little better, I hope this helps.

Hey Amanda,

I am feeling better today... but, still go through bouts during the day of extreme tiredness. Yesterday was my first day back at work, and I only made it till about 3:30, and had to go home. It takes a while to get your strength back!

AS far as the Ready-to-Drin shakes... I bought a bunch of the Cytosport Monster Milk ones. They are 20oz, and have 45g of Protein, sugar/lactose FREE! Got them from Vitamine Shoppe. They have chocolate, banana Creme, and Cookies and Creme. They taste ok....almost all of the Protein drinks are good, till you have to drink them all day long!! LOL

I also had the hernia repair along with my band. I took a week off of work and I worked 1/2 days most of the 2nd week just to get back in the swing of things. I bought the whey Protein at Sams Club/Walmart. The chocolate mixed with milk takes just like chocolate milk so that is easy to get down. I mixed the vanilla with milk, greek yogurt & a handfull of berries. Tasted really good, but the air from blending was too much for my stomach. I've tried Muscle Milk and that was really good.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
