GoBanana 6 Posted October 25, 2011 She is making me do a two week diet program before she will give me clearance - regardless of the fact that i had my 6 month supervised program with my PCP. And she saw it too!!! I have to just keep waiting and waiting and waiting...i just want to get these appointments over with and im sick of these diets i have to go on - i just want my surgery...and if she doesnt clear me im going to go to another dietician. UGH makes me so maaaaaad!!
THEgeorgiaPEACH 3 Posted October 25, 2011 Isn't it frustrating? It took me over a year to get my surgery! It'll all be worth it... stay patient & good luck!

littlerlou 7 Posted October 25, 2011 Patience is NOT something I was blessed with LOL Hopefully this will be the only set back - i am really amped for this surgey to be in December Can you just go see another dietician anyway? Since you have already done the 6 month thing with your PCP I would politely inform her that you arent going to do this and if she doesnt give you the clearance then you are going to another dietician. I think what these dieticians are suppose to do is deter you in every way from surgery. Do they think that after everything we have been through that a 2 week diet they are going to put us on will just magically turn us around!! I suppose this diet is going to be something that you wouldnt be able to maintain the rest of your life realistically. That is so frustrating!!!
GoBanana 6 Posted October 25, 2011 the problem is, my insurance is terrible and there arent any dieticians that take it - this one is affiliated with my PCP's office....i would go to my surgeons nutritionist but she doesnt take my insurance and its going to cost me 150.00 plus another 150.00 if i choose to use their psychologist. not having luck finding one of them either...this is costing me a fortune with copays and everything and i havent even set my surgery date yet! Hmm..that is a toughy..is there any way you can go back to your PCP and let him/her know that this is getting to be too much? Especially financially. Perhaps the dietician isnt communicating too well witht he PCP and maybe the PCP could contact them and override it???? Anything is worth a shot!
GoBanana 6 Posted October 25, 2011 im very surprised actually. I wasnt expecting this to be difficicult. Especially since the bariatric group i am going through makes things super easy and does all the leg work. I just thought I could go in to these specialists tell my story, get my clearance and be on my merry way...boy was i wrong
carol285 145 Posted October 25, 2011 GoBanana I am also A Spencer Holover patient, as a matter of fact today is my 1 year bandiversary! I have HIP and after finding that no dietician familiar, let alone supportive of weight loss surgery took my insurance I forked over the $'s for their Psych & nutritionist. Best money I ever spent. I saw them both in one day, no muss no fuss and knew both were recommending me for the surgery before i left their offices! Believe me I know it is tough to come up with the money, as a matter of fact I charged it lol!!
carol285 145 Posted October 25, 2011 PS: I was 5 months, less 1 day, from Initial Consult to surgery date & my insurance also requires a 6 month supervised diet so I think the practice is very adept at working the insurance companies. As a matter of fact my surgery was put off 1 month due to a family emergency. However, they can't work around one of the professionals not giving their clearance as that dietician is threatening! GoBanana 6 Posted October 25, 2011 thanks carol! how much did they both cost? I might just suck it up and go there...id need to take an entire day off work though------grrrrrr
GoBanana 6 Posted October 25, 2011 im sorry i just realized how rude that sounded!! so sorry!! you dont have to tell me. it is none of my business!!!
carol285 145 Posted October 25, 2011 LOL, didn't think it was rude at all, we need to know these things!! I know it was under $400, but can't remember exactly since I forked over the plastic. They are a fabulous practice and really made it as easy a process as possible e=when dealing with all the specialists required.
carol285 145 Posted October 25, 2011 I also posted under your question about going to surgeon for fills since I am familiar with the practice. Didn't add that the PA generally does the fills but you go when surgeon is in office just in case you need to see hi for any reason. NY Bariatric Group has 3 locations, Port Jefferson, New Hyde Park (both in LI) and in Manhattan so maybe you don't need to see him in Manhattan.
LB4Me 35 Posted October 25, 2011 If the WL center's dietician includes follow-up care, I'd suck it up. If you have any issues in the future, she will be there to help you get over the hump. These are the only things I had to pay out of pocket for, but the nutritionist includes a lifetime of follow up.
GoBanana 6 Posted October 25, 2011 OMG if i could get my fills in Port Jeff that would be a dreeeeam!!...not going to get my hopes up though....with the way things have been going lately LOL
