Are you looking for the BariatricPal Store? Go now!

Yay, I found you!

Recommended Posts

Thanks to all of you who led me to the North Carolina Site. This is the North Carolina site right? I just completed my second visit with my doctor. I was feeling quite discourage, this process is so long, but he lifted my spirits and rejuvenated my drive. Now I guess I am in the second stage because the papers are being submitted to my insurance, UHC. Now its a wait and watch again to see how cooperative they will be.

I will just pray that the insurance will approve the surgery. They originally said they would but lately for some reason the weight surgeries are getting harder to be approved, not quite sure why!

I truly rely on you experts and appreciate the information as a new lap band patient.

Does anyone know if there is a support group in the Cary area?

You have EXCELLENT insurance. A few of us have United Health care and they have been very good about approving the lap band and covering fills. Good luck and welcome to NC group. What doctor are you going through?

There you are!! I ws wondering where you ran off to...don't lose us now! Yes, you are n the NC Forum, so when you click on it, see the list of all the latest NC threads. We are meeting for lunch In Charlotte on the 18th...see the thread titled Feb 18th for details.

JudyBellyBand lives in the Raleigh area. She posts (I think) on the Yahoo board for NC Bandsters. But you could click on her User Name (just find an older thread with her name on it) and Private Message her and I'm sure she will reply. There IS a group that used to get together in your area. But you can always drive to Charlotte to see us!!!

Keep us posted on your progress. UHC is good about paying for banding so you should be scheduled lickity split!

Glad you found us again!

I am so glad you found us....

I know it's frustrating - the waiting is the worsest believe me we all know. Hang in there. I do have to say it took UHC only 3 days to approve mine. So keep positive thoughts going that way. ;) I know each policy is different but as long as your policy covers WLS you will have no problems.

I am not sure what is in Cary but if you ever want to venture this way we would love for you to. We have Sherrie who comes from up that way somewhere. She don't make it each month but she did come and visit us once...I hope we didn't scare her off.

There is a Feb Chat thread going on it's just a way for us to keep up w/ everyone so please feel free to jump in at any time.

Again Welcome!!!!

My surgeon to be is also Dr. Enochs. There is a support group in Cary started by Dr. Tammie Moore. She is the pshycologist that I had to see as part of the approval process. I have BCBS and I am very nervous too about approval. I just cannot believe that they will approve the Gastric Bypass and hesistant about the Lapband. I have to have a sleep study before they submit my paperwork, so I am hoping to have the surgery asap because I am finish with all of my other appointments. If I am not approved I don't know what else to do. I have also been to Jenny Craig in Cary. Please keep me posted.

I joined yesterday when I was struggling with this preop diet...
It typically comes and goes, the hard times and easier times. I'm on day 6 of 14  shakes, water, sf Popsicles and jello. And I might actually be losing my mind. But, oh dear lord has the fear set in. Not about the surgery itself, but life afterwards. If I feel this crappy on the preop diet, am I going to feel like this forever after?
I know most of the answers are no, not forever. It might be worse after for a while, then get better. I know it's a more of a mental challenge than physical after the first couple weeks of healing. I get all of that. But I'm starting to feel scared about losing myself afterwards.
It might be my hormones or desire to chew something salty talking.. It may go away soon or tomorrow.. I can hope, anyway. But right now.. The fear is real.

And this liquid diet can bite me.

Fear is normal, but if it makes you feel any better, I'm 4.5 months post-op and the pre-op diet was by far the hardest part of the whole process. There will be challenges and a lot of new things to learn, but I can honestly say at this point I feel so much more "back to normal" and was even able to go on a week-long vacation with my kids without stressing over it. It's so worthwhile.

@NickelChip This actually does make me feel better! Thank you so much! After the onslaught of Covid, we've all had to deal with a "new normal", so I know it's possible. It's just the fear and frustration in this moment that makes me question if I can find another "new normal" afterwards. The thought of just a few more months seems daunting some times, but I really do appreciate input and real experience. I'll use that to get me through for a few more hours! LOL. Thank you so much! And I'm glad everything is going so well for you! ❤️

I started my 10 day pre op diet yesterday I need flavor!! I'm not big on the chocolate protein shakes so I just got to use up what I have was thinking about freezing it to make it like a ice cream so its something I can chew a little. Idk this is hard but I know I can do it just need to find new things to try

You can try. I've read other people have had good results with protein-shake popsicles, etc. My personal experience with it? Sucked.

I tried making 'fudgesicles' with a couple different flavors of a premade shake, as well as a protein powder I blended myself and all of them came out revolting? The powder ones, all the protein sunk to the middle; the premade shakes, the popsicle had a disgusting texture and the protein seemed to leave a weird fluffy film on the outside? I couldn't stomach it.

Maybe look into flavoring additives? I was able to have sugar-free coffee /soda syrup flavorings, sugar-free drink flavorings and baking additives like almond, rum or pepperment extract. The extracts helped me the most as they added no extra sweetener.

On the other hand, if you can get your hands on an unflavored/unsweetened protein powder, the syrup flavorings are perfect. I love to use Boost "Just Protein" (which is unflavored) with milk and a Chai-flavored sugarfree syrup.

        Good luck!
