Best move I ever made

Recommended Posts

I was banded in February.

It may be premature to label this a success story, but I'm halfway there. I lost 50 pounds and have 50 to go.

I call it a success, because I have never regretted my decision for a minute.

I was concerned before the surgery about the diet restrictions and the unpleasant results of overeating.

I found both of them to be, at most, a minor inconvenience, and any discomfort is massively outweighed (no pun intended) by the positive results of weight loss.

The next 50 pounds will proabaly be harder, and will come off more slowly, but now I have confidence that I am learning how to eat correctly for the first time in my life.

Congratulations on your FABULOUS weight loss and many, many thanks for the encouraging words! I am only two weeks post-surgery and am finding it rough going so far. Your story was exactly what I needed to hear today.

Hang in there!

Depending upon your doctor's policy, you may still be on soft foods.

I remember, that does get pretty old after a while, but this too shall pass.

What kind of "rough going" are you experiencing?

I am still on soft foods, which I don't really mind. Big improvement after Protein shakes!

Thanks for asking. The rough-going I was referring to is nearly constant nausea. I feel on the verge of vomiting and nothing sounds good. I contacted the nurse practitioner who is following me and she thinks it may be due to excess stomach acid; she advised me to eat smaller amounts and increase the frequency to every couple of hours, to try chewable Tums, and add more dairy. She said nausea isn't a common side effect or reaction.

Hang in there!

Yuk!

That is, indeed, rough going.

I hope that gets resolved soon.

Maybe you could double-check with your surgeon to make sure there is nothing wrong.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
