Is anyone or has anyone experienced persistent hiccups since being banded? I have continual hiccups. Not big ones. Kinda slow and gentle. And they stop occassionally. Then start back up. I haven't had much gas pains. Maybe this is how my body deals with the gas?

If you have had them, how did you stop them?

Do you think you could be swallowing air? It seems that most foods that

produce gas, do it in the intestines. I know chewing gum will cause you

to swallow air, but I can't think of anything that produces gas in the stomach.

Maybe someone will come along with some real knowledge that can help.

It's just an irritation of your diaphragm.........they go away eventually and then reappear when you get something stuck........annoying but nothing to worry about

I get them when I eat.

If I hiccup 1 x = stop eating, you had enough.

.

2 x = you over did it stop, or be sick.

Otherwise it's just plain hiccups.

My body lets me know, and I listen to it.

Shirley.

I have noticed that since I have been banded I hiccup more after eating,my stomach gurgles and makes noise like crazy and when I am through eating every time now my nose will start to run.It is very important to listen to your body

especially now since youhave been banded.Your body will let you know what is going on. :-)

Oddly enough, I have not had the hiccups since I had surgery. I find it extremely hard to burp as well.

Exactly the same here. When sitting at the table, when the hiccups start I know I have entered the danger zone.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
