Is something wrong with my band?

Recommended Posts

Hello All,

I was banded on 10/17/11 and granted it's only been 6 day, I feel great! I didn't have too much pain after surgery and no nausea at all. Over the weekend though I had a breakdown :( See me and my family always go out to eat on weekends and I knew that would be something I would definitly miss but thought I'd be ok. But NO! We went and all I got was a Water but watching everyone else eat killed me. I thought since I felt so good maybe a little bit of food won't hurt me! I ate a bite of hot roll, a couple carrots and a few bites of my daughers chicken strips. As the food was going down I had some pain, it was more of a stabing pain in my back actually which lasted like a whole 2 mins. But After that pain went away I was fine! I thought I would be sick or throw it up but I didn't! I do feel bad for cheating like that and I'm worried it could hurt my band. I know I need stronger will power and I need to follow my Dr. instrusctions and diets. I'm just wondering, should I have been able to tolerate it? Or is something wrong with my band?

Well, I was banded on 9/7/11, so I am not an expert but here is my opinion. You are going to be fine. I can tolerate a lot of things I thought I wouldnt be able to, bread included, which I was told would make me sick. Now having said that, even though I can tolerate it, I have only had it twice and I dont plan on eating it again for a very long time. The doctors give us guidelines to follow for a reason :) The more we stick to their food plan, the more successful we will be in this life-long journey! Good luck :)

I may sound harsh, but are you following your post-op diet? Most of us were still on liquids at day six because we were still healing internally. You've made a major life decision by getting the band so you really need to follow your drs rules/advice to get the best results. (PS That doesn't mean I have been an angel and never slipped, but I was too scared/committed at that early stage to do anything other than exactly what my surgeon told me!)

Now - what's done is done, time to move on and get yourself back on track.

Is there something wrong with your band? Probably not.

Good luck with the rest of your journey!

Please stop eating solids!!! I was on liquids for 14 days. You can do serious damage to the band at this stage. The band had been sewed to your stomach which is why they don't want your stomach churning (which it does when you eat solids). I am not trying to be mean spirited. Truely I am worried about your health.

As a family we usually go out to eat every weekend for some meal. I told my DH before that I didnt think I could handle going out to eat til I was maybe 1 mo post op. According to my drs timeline I would have been on solids at this time. We ended up going out wk 3 at my suggestion. I looked at the menu online, selected Soup, logged it into my fitnesspal and enjoyed myself. You are healing. You need to follow your drs orders. If you cant go some where and watch people eat this soon then dont go. And lets face it-no one wants to order Water and watch ppl eat--that sucks, I get that. I always find when i go out to eat i have a plan beforehand. It helps me make better choices. You certainly could have made a better choice than a roll and fried tenders, but your band is probably fine. If you are uncertain ck with your dr. Just pick yourself up and follow your drs plan.

At this stage, why go out and torture yourself ? It's so much easier, early on, to just fix hinges at home. I'm 11 days post op and started mushies this weekend. While my son was having his grilled teriyaki chicken, asparagus and potatoes, I had some of the potatoes and I made refried Beans. My husband had already eaten but he sat and had some of whatbi had prepared. It was a cozy feeling just being in my own kitchen with my family. Be kind to yourself, especially at this fragile time when healing our bellies is so critical. And for me, I'm kind of happy to not go out for awhile. Restaurant food is almost always full of salt, fat, and sugar. I ate enough of it to get me to this place. Time to hunker down and eat healthy.

I was banded last year two days before thanksgiving. I am not recommending this, but on thanksgiving I ate some mashed potatoes and stuffing and was completely fine. When I go for fills, I sometimes do liquids for a day and sometimes I don't depending on how I am feeling. It's fine that you slipped everyone has. Everyone's experience is different depending on how old they are and their state of health. Guideline are just that a guide and normally being perfect is not something you Dr expects. Its completely normal to break the rules every once in awhile.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
