Anyone have surgery in Memphis Tn

Recommended Posts

I'm in the beginning stages of trying to have lap band surgery. I was so excited when I found this forum. BUT now I'm a little worried I can't find any recent information from someone who has had the surgery in Memphis with Virginia Weaver which who

I'm considering using.

If any of you hve used her I would love to hear from you good or bad.

Hi Bethp...you are the reason I joined the forum. Feb. 23 will be my 2 year bandiversary [ not sure I spelled it right LOL ] I was banded by Dr. Weaver myself and I felt like she did a awesome job. I'm very pleased...I'm about 10 lbs from my goal, I started around 286, today I am proud to say I weighed 167 this morning. It is extremely hard work but well worth the effort. If there is anything I can do to help you on this wonderous journey let me know. Believe me, you won't be sorry with her. Good luck!

Hey Chrissy, Thanks for joining to help me!!! CONGRATS on the weight LOSS!!!I can't wait to say I've lost that much. I called yesterday and Dr. Weaver is not in the office she is still on leave. I heard some not so good stuff about the person that is in the office with her now. So I called Nashville and I think I'm going to try there. I'm hoping to be able to have my surgery before the end of the year. If I have to wait longer I will probably opt to use Dr.Woodman because he comes to Jackson which is only 45 minutes from me.

I've been working with my PCP for over 6 months now, I've lost some then gained alot, almost 2 weeks ago I went to talk to her about trying something else and when they weighed me and she said 290 I lost it all I could do was cry. That's when I realized I needed more help, I don't think I can do it on my own without the surgery and be successful long term. Since that appointment I've lost 14 pounds. I go see my PCP tuesday and will know more about when I will have surgery.

Thanks again and I will definately be takin you up on your help offer. :)

That is exactly why I had the surgery on Oct. 3rd. I finally admitted I could not do it on my own. Good luck to you!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
