Surgery on Oct 17 and feeling really hungry- Should I eat more?

Recommended Posts

At this point I'm still on a liquid diet for at least another 5-6 days but I'm really feeling hungry every couple of hours. Is this a good sign that things are healing well and should I been increasing my Protein Shakes to one every couple of hours depending on hunger or should I stick to one every Breakfast, lunch and dinner? I don't want to overdo it but I really feel that I'm ready to move onto the mushie stage. I haven't had any issues swallowing and had very minimal pain after surgery. Thanks for your thoughts!

I really think you should follow your doctor/nutritionist's instructions.

My surgeon was an instructor for WLS and he really impressed on

me, the importance of allowing your stomach to heal. He said going

too fast was the single, most likely factor for WLS failure. Everyone

undergoing this surgery, has gone through what you're going through.

Hang in there and this too shall pass.

Please do not move ahead of your doctors schedule. Instead I would recommend spreading out your food intake. I would have the Soup wait an hour and then have the Protein Shake. Eating every couple hours also helps with the head hunger.

Have some ice pops, Jello etc. But don't start the mushie stage until surgeon recommends. I agree that following drs orders are important for success. Good luck to you! Karen

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
