You gals both have surgeons with excellent reputations. That's most of it. You don't have to

do anything, just show up. Recovery is easy, you'll probably have a little sore throat from the

intubation device, but that goes away soon. Don't forget to take your slippers and PJs,

those hospital gowns are pretty revealing. Good luck, in a year you'll just be a shadow of

your former self.

My BMI is 32.6 and I am looking to have the lap band surgery. I have located a surgeon locally. I am going to a seminar on Oct 27, 2011 & I will start my journey from there. I know I will be self pay. I am a Registered Nurse and have done intensive research and I have decided this is the best option for me.

I had my surgery on Monday the day after my birthday and I had a hernia repaired. I just ate some real food today which was some egg whites, but I constantly drink all day but I have to force myself to eat. Well I hope I will talk to someone soon. I need all the support I can get.

The pre op diet is hard for the first couple of days but you can make it. I lost 8 pounds but on my birthday which was the day before my surgery, I did treat myself to a healthy meal from Red Lobster. I had my surgery on the 17th and is still sore. I also had a hernia repaired so most of the pain is coming from that. But everything will be okay just keep your mind set on a goal.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
