Still trying to decide

Recommended Posts

I am scheduled for my pre-op appointment on 10/31 and at that time I have to decide. A) am I really doing this - nervous that it will really work; B) do I want the lapband of WRAP (for those not familiar it is like the sleeve but you dont' cut anything, stomach is folded in and stiched). I can't decide - I keep going back and forth. The WRAP sounds great but it's new. I have seen such success with the lapbad so I am conflicted. Anyone have any similar struggles??

That's called plication and several people here have had it (including me) and so far, everyone seems happy with it. It's fairly new so

there's no long term info on it yet. I guess we're all going to have to wait and see. There are people here that have lost well over 100 lbs

with the band alone, in a year or so. the band is the safest, most dependable of the WLS. Weight loss is a little slower initially,

but in a year or two all forms are about equal. Speaking for myself, I have had no problems of any kind, yet. I have very little

hunger and although I'm due for a fill Tuesday, I'll probably pass until, and if, my hunger returns. Read all you can and talk to all

the medical people involved, inform yourself as much as you can, and best of luck to you

So you have had the lapband and this plication? Mine would be one or the other, not together??

So yes that is what I am opting for without the Band. Homonym, decisions, decisions.

There have been complications with plication alone so be sure you make an informed decision before you choose one or the other.

Does your doctor not do the band and plication together? Like Corrigan, I have both and am quite happy with it. No real hunger and fairly steady weight loss. I have no fill in my band and at this point in my journey do not need one but am glad it is there for down the road aways. Like Corrigan said, do your research and decide what is best for you. No one else can make that decision for you.

I had lapband with plication (at the same time) 7-7-11 and I am doing great 60 pounds down and loosing at a good pace 1-2 pounds per week. I feel fine and do not regret having had both. My plan is to lose 118 pounds so I knew lapband alone was not going to do it. Talk to as many people as you can so you can make an informed decision. Had my 3rd fill today and having some issues with Water but it will pass tomorrow, I am at 4cc (I think). Good luck with your decision and your weight loss journey. Melinda

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
