I am still in the beginning stages of everything - made most of my specialist appointments! However, i am concerned because...today i realized that i suffer from severe mouth hunger. And it got me thinking "is this the surgery for me?"

i knew i wasnt hungry physically. but i just wanted something...chocolate...im addicted to it...add to the fact that i sit at a desk all day...its hard ya know?

id hate to go through this just for my mouth hunger and bad habits (night time eating) to keep me from losing.

does anyone else have this problem? were you able to overcome it? does the band really help this issue?

personal experiences welcome!

thanks in advance :)

I have the same problem especially the night eating. I don't call it mouth hunger though, mine is definitely head hunger! It is a constant battle for me. I make sure I have lots of things on hand to be able to eat to curb the craving. Sometimes I just force myself to go to bed so I don't eat! The band definitely does not alter what you crave, that is all you. It does alter what you are able to physically eat. That is different for everyone. The no good slider foods still go right down - no problem for me. Ice cream, chocolate chips, m&ms are no problem for me to eat. I choose not to though. When I was having real issues with the night eating I stopped all sugar. Sugar begets more sugar! I now stay away from all sugar and that helps my cravings tremendously. I literally mourned food for the first month or so after surgery. It was a very emotional process for me. I pushed through and took it day by day and have been successful so far.

I have never heard it referred to as "mouth hunger" but, I do suffer from "head/emotional hunger". Physical hunger was never my problem. For me, historically, the answer for every emotion/feeling ... bad (or even good) was to eat. I also struggle with wanting to eat something before bed. Well, the band has helped with both. I see a therapist (obesity specialist) to help with the emotional eating, and together with my band I am winning the battle. As for eating before bed ... when I do it, I pay dearly. I wake up coughing and choking -- the band does NOT like it when I eat and lay down, not at all. So, I rarely do this anymore. When I do, like I said, I pay dearly.

All I can say is collect as much information as you can before you make your decision.

All the best to you on your journey.

Everyone here has had those problems to one degree or another.

You just have to decide whether your weight is more of a problem

than giving up some of your favorite foods. The band has lessened

my appetite to the extent that, although I still like things I use to like,

I'm happy with much less. You'll hear a lot of stories about how

people here, have conquered, what they call "head hunger", and

that's what you'll have to do to make any WLS successful. It takes

some sacrifice and a bit of work, but thousands have done it.

You wouldn't be here if you didn't want to lose, so give it a try.

Whatever you decide, best of luck.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
