First Steps To Lap Band Surgery, Need Help! Columbus,ga

Recommended Posts

I live in the Columbus,ga area. I had my appointment today with my Pcm at Martin Army Hospital and was told that he will put in a referrel for my surgery.

My question is are there any surgeons in or around Columbus to do this? I cant seem to find any and i was just wondering if im looking in the wrong place.

I have Tricare and was looking for any feedback or advice associated with Doctors around the area (Up to/including Atl,Auburn,Birmin). What were the steps you had to take to complete the process leading up to getting banded. Any and all feedback is greatly appreciated!!

I did my banding in July of this year but unfortunately I had to travel to Valdosta to have it done and my fills are done in atl. There was once a dr here under tricare but thats a looonnggg story lol. you will be referred to albany most likely. For myself personally i had to see a dietician, psychiastrist and cardiologist. I would suggest going to your pcm and go ahead and put in refferals for the dietician and the pysch or else u will be goi.g back and forth. I was fortunate to get in at martin for the dietician but the wait was a month long and active duty have priority, thats why its good to go ahead and knock it out. The psych eval was put in and done within a weeks time. Feel free to hit me up anytime and I will help ya out. I love my band and would recommend it to anyone. We are leaving in December lol so I can at least help ya get ur feet wet. U can get surgery done in as little as 3 months from time of seminar. If u wanna talk one on one feel free to email me..blackmajyk@hotmail.com.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
