Newbie to board ~ Banded yesterday

Recommended Posts

I am on my first post-op day and bored out of my mind! I typically don't have the time to just lay around.

I have been sipping on my Water and had a sugar-free Jello so far and just made my 1st Protein Shake for the day. My post-op directions say 2 a day but so far I haven't even been hungry, just can't get enough to drink to keep my mouth wet.

it is important to drink the Protein Drinks and Water to stay hydrated. i know you feel, i was going bonkers the next day after surgery. heck, two days post op i was up and cooking a big Breakfast for everyone. LOL my family came to visit after my surgery and stayed the weekend. i felt good by day 3 and by day 5 i was out walking, not really far, but a few blocks at a time.

just keep drinking fluids and after about a week you will start to get hungry again. your body is recovering, so try to take it easy. :)

About how quickly do you think you could return to work? I work at a computer/desk all day and was just wondering how many days I would need to take off. One day for the surgery and then what? 1-2 days?

I'm a teacher and my Dr. will not let me go back until Monday.

I was the same way. I didn't feel hungry but it's because you are still swollen and healing. Drink the Protein, it helps you alot! Any gas pain, invest in gas-x or ask your doctor and don't forget your Vitamins. Good luck!

Work related, I wasn't allowed for 2 weeks, but my job is flexible. I met few who went back in a week. I thank goodness for those 2 weeks, because I was still healing and dealing with gas.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
