Dmorris2321 0 Posted October 19, 2011 Im a little concerned that I'm not getting enough intake. I had my surgery three days ago and I've only had 3 bottles of Water and 2 Protein Shakes. I'm not hungry or anything just worried.
Poodlelover56 2 Posted October 19, 2011 I was the same way. I am 7 days post op and still can not get 3 carnation shakes down. The nutritionist told me yesterday that if I am staying hydrated, not to worry so much. Just make sure that you are hydrated enough to be peeing atleast every 6hr. You will gradually be able to tolerate more fluids. Are you taking your pain meds? Pain can cause you to not want to drink also. I was still having awful gas pain in my left shoulder. The nurse practitioner yest advised me to take my percocette. I took one and felt so much better! I didnt think it would help the gas but it did. Hang in there. It will get better! formykids2 4 Posted October 19, 2011 I am day 6 and still have that problem. I am lucky if I eat 1/4 cup of anything 2-3 times a day (and of course by eat, I mean drink) and I maybe get 1-2 Water bottles in a day. My drs nurse called to check in yesterday and I told her and she said that the guidelines they give us are goals, but that if we get in 1/2 of it we are doing good! Phew!!! I try to only pour half a cup of something when I decide I want like juice or gatorade so that I dont feel there is SO MUCH to drink
Dmorris2321 0 Posted October 19, 2011 Thanks for the quick responses, glad to hear others had some reactions. I think I'm going to try some gatorade as I was just doing Water and Protein Shakes for liquid. Might be like a treat.
screeden 21 Posted October 19, 2011 i did gatorade and sucked on popsicles, i too was not hungry until 1 week after surgery, but i knew i had to keep hydrated. keep drinking the Protein Drinks, sip on them, and keep drinking the Water. and try a heating pad on your shoulder for the gas pains. also Mylanta chewables are wonderful for the gas. Dmorris2321 0 Posted October 19, 2011 Really haven't had the shoulder pain except for a little yesterday, but it was more my whole neck shoulder area making think it was from sleeping with my head propped to high. I usually sleep on my stomach but couldn't so I slept on my back using an extra pillow to keep my head up. Slept great but my neck was killing me.

Dmorris2321 0 Posted October 20, 2011 Well so much for not feeling hungry, I feel like I need something but the Protein Shakes are not doing it for me. I defenetly need to get to the store for some new liquids, because muscle milk and Water is driving me crazy.
