Why do I weigh more than when I went to surgery?

Recommended Posts

So I was weighed in on October 14th at 277 pounds and now I'm at 279. I've barely eaten anything? Why is my body hating me so much?

Also I'm allergic to the pain meds, anything I can take? It getting better but I'm still uncomfortable.

My surgeon told me I would gain weight just from the IV drip but not to worry about it. If you think that is weird, I had 5 lbs of skin removed from my stomach and was 4 lbs heavier the next morning but again I knew if was from the IV drip and swelling. Don sweat it, everything will work out especially if you do what you are suppose to do.

I'm amazed your surgeon didn't tell you that they pump you full of liquids during surgery. STAY OFF THE scale. Your body does not hate you.

And since we don't know what you're allergic to we can't tell you what to take. your doctor didn't have any advice or any alternate meds?

I would recommend liquid tylenol (store brands available for much less). I can't take most perscription pain meds so that's what I took after surgery. I did take a dose every four hours to stay ahead of the pain.

lol no he didnt tell me to stay off the scale. I'm guessing he should have since the liquid diet I've had a scale addiction hahaha.im not allergic to tylenol as far as I know, but i'm guessing no actual pills for a bit since I'm only 3 days post-op. I still look like a bloated balloon though >_<

my surgery was the 13th. i am still majorly bloated too. liquid tylenol not pills. i was told i can take pills, but it is much harder for them to do their job when tummy has to work to degrade them. heating pad and had massagers on my back are helping me some. i weighed 5 lbs more after ( I knew I would weigh more, but wanted to see how much), and today I am 2 lbs heavier than when I weighted in. I am WAY more interested in the inches change since I measured the day before surgery and now I feel about 5 months pregnant.

To add to the bloating I have a double chin now that wasnt there before surgery!!! I'm using a heating pad too mostly on my left shoulder it hurts soooo much. Wish you luck!!! :)

I swear my scale hated me too. I was the same weight forever and then I think 2 weeks post op suddanly I was 5 lbs lighter over night and then within 4 days I believe I dropped like 20 lbs.

Your body is reacting to the major surgery you just had.

Focus on resting worry about the scale later

I haven't had my lap band surgery yet but after I gave birth to a 6 pound 3 oz baby I went home and weighed myself. I was 12 pounds heavier than when I went in to the hospital and my baby was NOT in my arms when I was on the scale... I had major complications and 3 days of labour/saline/ epidurals, etc. It took a few days to lose the weight, puffyness, etc. Most surgery's cause you to puff up as your body is swolen and recouperating. Hang in there!!!!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
