Having a COLD with lapband

Recommended Posts

Have any of you had a cold with your lapband which caused "stuck" episodes? I got a fill on Tuesday and had no problems until Thursday. At that point I had a cold. I have had three stuck episodes but all that I PB is mucous. The latest one was with a Mucinex pill that I cut in half. Any ideas of what I can do for the mucous? Thanks

Drink plenty of Water. Use a cool mist humidifier in your bedroom. Maybe stick to liquids while you are Ill. You could call your surgeon, too.

Thanks, I have been trying to eat cause I'm hungry but can only eat two or three bites. Drinking herbal teas which stay down. I hope this is better soon.

Try liquid mucinex. After a cup of hot tea so hopefully it would go dwn.

I had a cold a couple fo weeks ago, and was just not hungry for about 4 days. I didn't throw up, but I'm sure if I'd had more restriction in my band I would have.

I hope you're feeling better soon!

I had to get unfilled as I had a sinus infection that took two rounds of antibiotics to kick - I was so tight and miserable I couldn't eat hardly anything....it was the mucus. :( I notice that when my allergies kick up and I have drainage that it definately affects the band....no fun! Mucinex was the one thing that seemed to help me the most, though.

Hang in there!

Thanks to all of you for the information. I called the clinic today and have an appointment for the morning if I need it. I hate to have an unfill since it has taken me five months to get to the point where I think I might need to be. I am trying some chicken salad now (which will be my first solid food since Friday). If I can keep it down I won't go.

I am worried though about doing some damage to the band or surgery so if I must I will go. I didn't know they had liquid mucinex. I got a half mucinex tablet stuck the other night and haven't tried that again.

Are you sure that you are not just too tight? GERD will cause the same symptoms. Hope that you feel better, karen

Thank you for the response. I went to the PCP and found that I had a sinus infection. PA at the surgeons office said that the mucous clogs the band and then things get swollen. They removed some of the saline. I'm still not very hungry and feel real tight.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
