I'll take all the advice I can get

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I am just starting out in my process. First I have to do a 3 month weight loss program under my doc's care and then I can get banded. I have met with the weight loss clinic that will do the surgery and will start the meetings with the dietician and meet with the doctors next month What advice can you all give me?

Thanks,

Heather

Don't give up with the process. It can be very frustrating with the waiting process. Make sure you get copies of all your weign in's. Thank goodness for me I did. The dr. office lost my file (record) and I would have had to start all over again with out those copies. I had to do a 6 month weight loss porgram for my insurance and then had to wait for their aprroval. But if you are determined and motivated to have this surgery and make it work the waiting is just part of it. I have been approved for surgery and my surgery date is Nov. 22 (although i will say hurry but Nov. you are not getting here fast enough.) Good luck with your process and keep us informed.

I agree with slim down donna do lots of research and educate your self. I have done 3 yrs. worth. I found lots of different ideas for pre op and post op diets and recipes. I read pros and cons and talk to others. I really like this Lap band talk where you can talk and get suggestions from others. The better your support system is I think the better you are motivated .

You have made the first start to a new life. I have been banded 2 years and i am at goal 110 down and just had a lower body lift. I have a few rules that i lived by and yes some times it wasnt easy and i did have "reward days" i still alway went back to my rules here is a list that worked for me

1. stick with the plan dont let anyone hold u back be the leader and motovator of others and not the follower

2. keep a high Protein diet protein kills the apptite and build muscle helping with the weight loss rule of thumb if it didnt contain 10% protein per calories i didnt eat it example 100 cal 10 % protein or as close as u can get

3. find u a work out partner and go to the gym or have a home program

4. write down everything u put in your mouth no sugar no white flour

5. dont set unrealist goals reward your self when u meet a goal

6. and keep it in mind that u are making a life change and your never look back

good luck i was a size 24 when i started and i am now a 6 so u can do anything and yes it is worth all the bad days

i would also sugest the loseit app for the iphone and getting u a bodybuggsp.com it is worth the money

but most important go se your lapband dr each month keep will keep u in line and make u accountable

good luck

Thanks for this great advice! I will be banded in early November and, like the person who started this post, I'm looking for "all the advice I can get." Again, thank you!

Take your slippers, the little booties they give you don't stay on, and be sure to take your

PJs. You don't want to be walking down the hallway with your IV stand, holding your gown

closed in the back with your other hand, and above all relax, it's not that bad.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
