Guest Bflyaa31 Posted February 8, 2006 I am going to be banded by Dr. Spivak on Feb 22. What type Anethsia ( or however you spell it), do they use? ALso, once you are allowed to go home, do they give any meds for pain? if so, what kinds?
Wheetsin 714 Posted February 8, 2006 Aside from "general", you will need to ask your surgeon. I've talked with several others getting banded around the same time as me, and all our surgeons are using different medications, even different procedures. Again, probably depends on your surgeon. Mine does, but what they give will probably vary. Pick up your phone & give your surgeon a ring, they will have all these answers for you (and, more importantly, they'll be the right answers for your specific procedure/surgeon)! Guest Tasharoo Posted February 9, 2006 Definitely, General Anesthesia... I wouldn't want it any other way. My doctor prescribed liquid Loritab for afterwards. I only used it for 2 days and I was ready to live without it!:couch2:
gadgetlady 4 Posted February 9, 2006 General anesthesia. Sent me home with a prescription for tylenol w/ codeine. It's been a lifesaver, both for the incision pain and for the backache from the hospital bed!
Afterglow 0 Posted February 9, 2006 I was also banded by Dr Spivak. He uses (as do all lapband surgeons, I believe) general anesthesia. If your surgery is done at the SurgeryCenter, you'll get a prescription for a painkiller with codeine to get filled after you leave. I didnt realize the painkiller would have codeine and, since I threw up codeine years ago, I was too nervous to take the painkiller after I got it. (I didnt really need it anyway, though.) gentlespirit 1 Posted February 9, 2006 I had general anesthesia...only way to go! Since I'm allergic to codeine, I got Demerol in the hospital (only needed it once) and just liquid Motrin at home twice. Emily
