I have had this skin sensation pain just left to my belly button and a little below, right where my pants sit on my waist. It started almost 1 week ago and noticed it after I had done some light cleaning. I am 2 & 1/2 weeks post op. It feels like I am being stabbed from the inside and when anything rubs on my skin it sends a sharp pain instantly. I do not have any pain when I am sitting or laying down. I have checked with my surgeon's office and the RN said it sounds like it's muscular pain. It just doesn't feel like muscle pain (like right after surgery). I have tried tylenol and ice and it didn't seem to make a difference in the sensation. I do not have a rash-so it's not shingles. Has anyone had this problem? Please help....

Is it near your port? My skin near my port gets this stinging/burning pain... Especially when I wear tight jeans or a high waisted belt. And if I'm sitting a lot that day(which doesn't happen often).

It is near my port site and only bothers me when I am standing or walking around. Right now I don't have anything on my waist line and it's not bothering me and I am sitting. Now if I get up and walk around even when my pants are not around my waist it still bother's me. Does this go away?

I hate to speculate on things like that, but my port site was sensitive to touch for a few weeks.

I'd try to keep things off it as much as possible and just watch for any signs of infection (not likely)

you'll probably be fine in a week or two. you might try a cold compress, good luck.

I had weird pains like that too. It seemed like the areas would heal in different orders. I don't know if that makes sense but one area would be feeling better and then I would have pain in another area. I am almost 5 weeks out and I am just now feeling 100%. Just take it easy, I think it is probably just part of the healing process.

Thanks to those of you who responded. I am glad that at least someone else understands my pain. It is so hard to explain it to someone and have them imagine what I am feeling. I'll TRY to stick it out another week or so. Good thing I work as a medical assistant so I can wear loose fitting clothes all day long :P .

For a while I had a stinging sensation that felt like a sunburn almost. The doctor said the nerves have to heal too after being cut through and I hadn't even thought of the nerves healing too.

I agree with dawnh. I had a similar sensation. I was allowed to rub a small amount of baby oil on the area once a day. It helped! It sucked that any slight touching - even from clothes - felt like sandpaper!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
