BEST tasting protein shake?

Recommended Posts

I was just wondering if anyone knows of any Protein Shakes that actually taste good? I have always been turned off to the flavor of artificial sweetners, never liked diet sodas or foods sweetened with splenda? Help!

I like the "Oh Yeah" brand, Cookies and Cream flavor. It actually is pretty good. Most days I do the EAS carb control, but the taste is so much better for the Oh Yeah's..

Definitely, absolutely, NOT Isopure, Zero Carb, 40g of Protein. The initial taste brings familiarity of Otter Pops, the aftertaste, I cannot begin to describe how awful it is. As I'm typing, I'm gagging.

I don't know of any name brand Protein shakes but I make my own. I use the greek yogurt, strwbrry flavored, a banana and some silk milk. I throw it all in the blender and mix it up. The banana takes care of the tartness of the yogurt and the silk milk helps to sweeten things up a bit. Give it a try and let me know what you think. I was banded on July 12th, 2011. I just had my 3 month check up on the 11th of October and no adjustments to date. I don't crave junk food and I can swallow normally now.

For a while though I had a sticky situation. Yeah, food was getting stuck quite a bit. Anyways, I'm all better now and it feels good to be able to eat and drink with out suffering. Well, let me know about the shake.

good luck finding something to fit those taste buds.

I tried plenty and couldn't stand the after taste either! You can use Carnation Instant Breakfastwith milk, but you might need a little scoop of Protein to boost it up. My absolte favorite is GNC's Total Lean (I get the ready made kind). The chocolate is great and you can but a single to try and see if you like it. It's a thinner shake and it's great! If you like strawberry that's good too. The vanilla was kind of plain. I use to pour it in a blender with ice and a 1/2 of banana (optional)and then pour it into a diaquiri-type glass and add a little LF whipped cream on top.:P

I agree about the Isopure. I tried the fruit punch flavor today for lunch. I didn't have any alternative Protein drinks, so I couldn't throw it away. It is absolutely vile - imagine watered-down sugar free koolaid with some kind of hot pepper after taste.

I start with Muscle Milk Lite, vanilla.

I put that in a blender with a few ice cubes, Water, and add what other I want after that. Strawberries, Blueberries, etc. Use your imagination.

Make your own thick smoothie!

I have that plus a liquid Protein supplement everyday for Breakfast, curbs my hunger all day.

my local health food store makes great Peanut Butter Protein shakes. so now i just make my own at home with Protein powder, ff vanilla frozen yogurt, banana and some Peanut Butter (also maybe some ice cubes). my band is pretty tight & i'm quite restricted so i don't mind the extra calories and it's sooo good. highly recommend

Peanut butter!! I never thought of that. Will try it ASAP!

Carnation Instand BF - sugar free with Non Fat Milk works for me. Tastes like a chocolate shake and no after taste. You can get Vanilla also and add some fruit. Really good.....but only 15 gr of Protein. I guess you can add some protein powder to boost it up a bit but I dont.

Otter Pops are these yummy Popsicles that come in different yummy flavors..haha. But it's awful because the after taste hits you like dry Protein hay. Right after surgery my doctor ordered Clear liquids for 4 days, so I was forced to drink Isopure. Every time I tried to drink it I would gag and gag. Eventually I mixed it in with sugar free drinks or G2 and it made it "ok".

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
