Lap Band has cured my Heartburn!!

Recommended Posts

I'm very happy with my weight loss so far but I'm even more thrilled that the lap band has seemed to have cured my heartburn. Before I had the band, I had the most painful heartburn almost every night. It was so miserable. I had to sleep almost sitting up and never got a goodnight rest. Since I've been banded, I've had zero heart burn. I've been able to sleep laying down and it's been wonderful. Has anyone else experienced this relief since being banded?

Sorry to tell you this, but It probably will come back. I had a hiatus hernia repair several years ago to correct my heartburn. Last Sept I had a band and was told my heart burn would come back. I thought I was one of the lucky ones, No heartburn. Not until this summer, my heart burn is back and worse, but the good news is, ranitadine works wonderfully if taken every day.

My surgeon told me that a properly banded patient should not have heartburn or acid reflux.

I used to have to take Prilosec every day. I haven't had to have one since the day of my surgery.

I have experienced the same as you. Since my lap band surgery I have not had to take the prilosec. It's wonderful. I also have stopped taking 1 of my diabetes meds and the 2nd med is almost gone. Wish I had done this a long time ago.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
