2.5 weeks out and no energy

I just had my lap band surgery sep 24th. I made it back home on the 27th and started taking walks right away. I'd have to 'recover' from my walks for a couple of hours. Just went back to work today, did my elliptical for twenty minutes in the morning and barely made it through the day. Is this normal? When will I get my energy back?? My dr said I needed to exercise an hour everyday.

Koodos to you for being able to walk 3 days after surgery. I was in too much pain (hernia surgery too) and wasn't able to get around much. Walking to the bathroom and back to the living room was enough for me to handle.

I was off work for 2 weeks and when I went back to work I still didn't have my energy back. I've never been a good Vitamin taker and my doctor told me to get a good Multivitamin and some B12. I did just that and omg, what a difference. I've been taking them ever since. So my suggestion, try some vitamins!!

We were told if we became fatigued easily after surgery, to take a B12 tablet and place it

under our tongue (sublingual). It seems to help me, you might try it.

Kimike,

Keep in mind that you are still in the Healing phase of your surgery experience. People can react very differently to the physical insult of surgery. Many people are just fine a couple of days after surgery, others take weeks or even months to recover from it. The effect of the anesthesia can have a fairly dramatic impact on people just by itself, not to mention the insertion of the band. Your dramatic change in eating can also play a role in your energy level.

Just give it time and some rest and you'll be just fine. Even people who feel fine after a few days should curtail their physical acitvity for a while. There is a lot going on in the surgical process, and it is vitally important that you give your body plenty of time to heal.

Just relax and enjoy the down -time!

S.

Thank-you. I think I'm getting obsessive with the weight loss, I lost 10 lbs within the first week and have only lost a pound since. Frustrated cause I wanted to be one if those that lose their weight quickly.

Patience and persistence are 2 good words to remember with this road of life we have chosen. Remember we didn't gain this weight in a week, so it goes without doubt that this is going to be an on going "life change" that will in due time pay off 10 fold. Don't panic, remember the simple steps, don't compare what you eat to others around you. You will do fine. :)

Hope you're doing better by now. Are you taking your Vitamins regularly? (I'll bet I sound like your mom with that question, but they really helped my energy level as did more exercise.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
