Four year frustration

Recommended Posts

Hello to everyone - I hope you are all doing well. I am four years out of being banded and feel like this has been my worst year yet. I had lost 80 pounds but have gained 30 back. My thyroid numbers were off so the doctor put me on some meds to regulate it and it seems that nothing I do is bringing the weight back down. I was so close to my goal and now I feel like I have stepped back in time to struggling again. The band seems to be great with fill. I know that I do have to increase my exercise, but I am juggling my schedule to work it in.

Any thoughts, advice or words of wisdom.

Mystalia

where there is a will there is a way. I always thought I was to busy to exercise, bu this month I promised my dr. that I would do the 60 mile challenge, as I am walking I realize I have more time than I thought, maybe less tv time or computer time but thats ok.

Good luck on your journey!!!

Mystalia, I think you are being too hard on yourself. My wife has thyroid problems and when she is either hyper or hypo thyroid it takes time for her metabolism to adjust to the increase or decrease in medication (at least 6 weeks or more). Her weight is up and down and will not stabilize until the medication take affect properly. As long as you have good restriction the weight will start coming off once your thyroid levels are normal. Exercise will help, but, be patient and recover from the thyroid issue first. Hope this helps. Jake

One thing I find hard to fathom is how darn hard it is to lose weight when you're not overweight! You're probably finding similar - you weigh a lot less than you did and it doesnt fall off quite like it did when you were really obese. I've gained a couple of pounds once or twice and had to work VERY hard to get rid of them again, even when I went and had a fill.

Exercise is crucial at this stage of weight loss. You must find a way to fit it in - it needs to be fairly intense too. You can do this. Dont let a setback wreck what you have worked so hard for. Its simply a matter of gritting your teeth and getting on with it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
