Staying with relatives...

Recommended Posts

My hubby and I have to make a trip to Indiana for some family things. His dear great grandma is 95 and is having a hard time, so we want to go visit her. We are staying with his dad and step-mom, who I love. I am just worried about eating. They eat differently than we do. A lot of processed and fried food. They don't really cook, so they eat out alot, which I am ok with because then I can make my own choices, but am worried about what to do at their house. I really don't want to gain any weight. I would be very happy to stay the same, as long as I don't gain. I don't want to be rude or hurt their feelings. I'm just so scared...I haven't vacationed with the band yet. Please if you have any advice let me know.

They know you have the band? Then they should understand that you need to possibly make your own meals separate from theirs. If not, I would make a quick shopping trip for some ready to drink Protein Shakes, cottage cheese, greek yogurt, etc that are easy to prepare but will keep you on the right track for most meals even if you do eat off your plan for others. Good luck.

Offer to cook a couple of meals on the days that you are not eating out. It's a great way to show your appreciation for their hospitality plus you have total control over what is being served.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
