Had my xray and follow up with the surgeon today. I was feeling so good today (8 days post op) that I practically skipped to the hospital. Surgeon was happy with my healing and I got to skip ahead to mushies. I could not wait to get home to a scrambled egg! Tonight, refried black Beans. Heavenly!

You can get Protein and calories with cottage cheese, chobani yogurt, carnation sugar free Breakfast with skim milk. I am in the mushie stage. I can't purée my food. I just chew, chew, chew and it seems to go down fine.

I have started on a few soft foods too. I had chicken and broccoli in white sauce. scrambled eggs w a little turkey sausage. Fish with peas. I only do it for dinner and have liquids or mushies for breakfast and lunch. I keep it at 1/2-1 cup for all of it. I bought some of those lunch tuna kits that have spices, and some exotic Soups with lentils and black Beans and such to try next. One thing that I have done to help with my full force hunger pains is a few bites of banana. I end up eating only 1 whole one through the day. It has helped me not fridge surf if you know what I mean!

The banana is a great idea; I am definitely going to use this one!

Congrats! I was banded on 10/19. I too am very itchy. They used steri-strips on me, and I think it's the glue from the strips that are making me itch. You're so lucky to be on mushies!! I have to wait 17 days! 10 days to go.. I can't sleep on my stomach yet either. Great job on your weight loss so far:) What ate you eating for mushies?

Do, nt feel alone I was banded 10-18 and have 19 days to g0 before mushies, still on Clear Liquids, no Protein, but doing OK taking my Vitamins and drinking Water. I Dont understand the no protein for 2 weeks unless it would irritate the stomach? Last thing I need is to erritate my stomach. Have you found it as hard to think as I, I dont drive now, to scarry with no brain power.

Hi fellow bandsters,

I was banded on Oct 20. I am in my second day of pureed foods. I wondering wether I am getting enough calories in (see my menu from yesterday). I only hit 375 calories. I also was only able to get 1 17 oz bottle of Water down. It is not that I am hungry, but I don't think it is healthy with that little amount of calories. I don't want my body to go into starvation mode. I have lost 26 pounds in 3 weeks (17 of it was during pre surgery liquid diet) . How many calories are you all getting in at this stage?

Breakfast

3 oz pureed egg salad with ff miracle whip 150 cal 12 Protein

lunch

2.5 oz pureed tuna with FF miracle whip 50 cal 13 Protein

1 oz of pureed egg salad with FF whip 50 cal 6 protein

dinner

2.5 oz pureed tuna with FF whip 50 cal 13 protein

snack

1/4 cup of cottage cheese 45 cal 6.5 prot

total 375 cal 50.5 gr protein.

thanks for your help

Boy - what a difference a week makes! On to regular food, and I am able to eat everything I have tried so far, unfortunately. After being in such bad pain and having to get an emergency "unfill" on 10/8, I can't wait until my appointment on 11/1 to get a fill! Mornings are OK, as I can tell that my stomach is more swollen, therefore feel more restricted and can't eat as much. But evening is BAD - hungry and no restricted feeling whatsoever. I NEED that fill - I am down 20 lbs. and don't want to go back up this week.

No pain or issues anymore. Only thing I feel is pressure at the port site whenever I have to lean over, reach out for the car door to shut it, etc. Doctor said it isn't the port I am feeling, but the swelling/scar tissue. The sample port he showed me is tiny - about the size of a dime, I am guessing, so I can't imagine it is that I am feeling.

I had to have an unfill as well. I was banded on Oct 12, and just had liquid for the first two days and on day 3 i went to full liquid by day four i was throwing up. i discovered i could no longer drink the same Protein shake that i did pre surgery. When I went to my doctor for my one week post op visit, they asked me if i was getting in all of my fluids and i said I'm trying, and the nurse said are you just not thirsty or can you not drink them, and I explained that i was not able to do them as much as I would like because I had a horrible pressure in my chest when I did drink. She said ok, that means you get an unfill. So I currentlly have nothing in my band and my first fill won't be until Nov 7. i can't wait til i'm able to feel full.

I also have a question for all of you. How many calories are you consuming daily? I wasn't told what to stick around, but I was trying to say around 800, but sometimes that doesn't seem like enough for me to be satisfied. So I need some help pls!

Congrats to all who have been banded so far this month, and to the ones coming up. You are all doing great.

Jess

Non-fat, refried Beans only at this stage. It is also suggested that you stir in some smooth salsa to make it more liquid. Top with low-fat cheddar cheese and microwave.

Hi all. I was banded yesterday 10/28, and getting around very well but hurting more than Id anticipated. Clear liquids til 11/11 then on to mushies.

I dry heaved a lot when I woke up in recovery so Im sure that has contributed to my pain. Get to shower tomorrow, yay!

Jess

I give myself a window of 800-1200-- calories a day. I am most comfortable between 800-1000 though..

Now I need a unfill too... I was in the Hospital for a few days, and some Nurse crushed a bunch of pills and said open wide ! I told her I could feed myself !!!!!! She said No it's policy, and I started to try to tell her that the other Nurses let me feed myself, and in between that she shoved the spoon in my mouth with all those meds, and I was stuck... Well I am so swollen still that I called yesterday, and have to go down state next week for a unfill.

Stupid B!TCH !

I got my first fill yesterday. The fill itself was not very painful but uncomfortable. My Dr. said the first one is the worst & from now on it will be a breeze. Before my fill I could eat anything at about half the volume I did pre-surgery. Yesterday after the fill I had a hard time getting Soup down. I am super tight. It it doesn't relax by Wed I am going to have some taken out. I had 1cc from surgery & the Dr. put in 2cc yesterday so I have a total of 3cc in a 10cc band. I really want to get this weight off so if I can bear through this I will.

Good luck & prayers for everyone!

Hi Jess !

I was banded on the 12 th too. I am very surprised you already had saline in your band! No wonder you were sick. I won't get a fillbfor three more weeks. Your belly needs time to heal.

Hi all my fellow October Bandsters!

I was banded Oct 25th and feel pretty good. Having a difficult time drinking all of my Protein shakes but doing well with clear liquids. I love that I can be worried about something, log in to the forum and find that I am not alone. I feel a sense of friendship and support from everyone. I am down 11 lbs. from the pre-op diet (1week of challenge) until today. I, like most of you, are not hungry but miss certain foods. I am anxious to start exercising and watching that scale go down!!!!!! I have a wonderfully supportive husband and adult children and even a super supportive workplace. My office partner just had gastric bypass surgery in September. I plan on keeping in touch frequently, hope you do too!!!!

Patty

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
