Bloated-4 days since being banded

Recommended Posts

I was banded on Monday, Oct 3rd! Yay! No problems with surgery! Yay! Haven't taken pain meds since Tuesday, the 4th! Yay! Ok, the issue is all this bloating with gas. It makes it hard for me to take in my liquids because it just makes me more miserable than I already am. I don't get anywhere near the required amount of fluids because I'm miserable. Yesterday, with permission from my doc, I started with GasX and Milk of Magnesia-finally-RELIEF!!!! However, here I am again bloated and miserable. It doesn't matter how much I rub my stomach (in an effort to get the gas to go down-if you know what I mean) or how much I walk-no relief. What gives?? Is this how things are gonna be?? Is there any real relief w/o the assistance of meds in my near future? I'm going back to work next week, I don't want to walk around looking 10 months pregnant! Any suggestions would be GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!!!!!!

Hi KoKo

I had the same problem you did when i first got banded. All i can say is it will get better. The only thing my doctor told me to do was walk. And I did at all hours of the day into the night cuz i felt like I was gonna blow up!! I was also very constipated by the 4th day and that added to the discomfort. It was so painful to even walk anymore. I tried the milk of magnesia as well and didnt help. You have to drink a whole glass of Water right after the dose and being that you can only sip that didnt help. I had to succumb to the Dulcolax suppositories to relieve my Constipation and within an hour i was feelign relief... The GAS X pills helped alot too the first week. Ive heard warm compresses on the abdomen also help relieve some of the gas. But try and walk as much as you can. The second week will get better. and so on.

Good luck!

Hang tough. It will pass. Then you just have to get through band he'll of liquids and mushy foods, and then wait for your first fill, then your second and maybe third while seeking the elusive green zone, then deal with getting stuck and PBing

Just remember to Celebrate every success along the way. And remind yourself that is definitely worth it.biggrin.gif

The more you walk, the sooner it will pass. I used to walk up and down my street, stopping every so often to let go of some of the gas!:D:lol:

I got re-banded on October 4th!! :)

Only today have I felt like I can actually walk or suck my stomach in, I've had so much gas that I've felt miserable and totally uncomfortable, it's gotten better today and the only pain or uncomfortableness I have is where the incisions are, so I'm very happy. I've only been taking panadol solueable but didn't take any yesterday and now feel good, so I guess for me it was time that eased my pain. I hope everything gets better for you!!!! :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
