Feeling low energy on pre-op liquid diet

Recommended Posts

I am day 8 on liquids pre op. I have 3 carnation sf instant breakfasts and I can have sf Jello, sf Popsicles, Tomato Soup ( but not every day), sf pudding or yogurt once a day, broth, crystal lite.

I feel very low energy. And i am very gassy, even using lactaid milk. Does anyone else feel this way? I know that everyone's pre-op diets are different. This one is pretty strict but I'm sticking with it.

you need protein! Find a good Protein Shake you like..i personal like Pure Protein ready to drink from target or GNC or the GNC powder protein (the extreme one)

Once you have some protein you will feel sooo much better

Thank you for your reply. My surgeon's guidelines specify no sugar added Carnation instant Breakfast which only gives me 13 grams per drink or about 40 for the day. I agree with you. It's too low. I only have 5 days to go! I actually ate 2 scrambled eggs today because I was so hungry. It felt so good and I'm sure I didnt hurt my pre op diet.

Get some Carnation no fat powdered milk and add it to your Instant breakfast. It will up your Protein in them. You can also get some Protein Shots at GNC or Walmart. They taste really nasty to me, but are a way to get more protein. I used them right after surgery and just held my nose while getting them down. I just used half at a time and they really helped upping the protein but with very little volume.

Try adding an additional shake. I too felt that way and even became ketonic (spelling). My nut told me to go to 4 rather than the three. It is totally normal to feel the low energy. The gas is from the Protein.< /p>
