I have been thinking about looking into Lap Band surgery for over a year and finally took the first step yesterday. All I know so far is what I've read online. I am so happy to have found this forum - this will be super.

My question is the port. Where is it located? How often does it need to be filled? Is it painful to have it filled? Can you see or feel the port? All information about ports will be greatly appreciated - thanks!

My first meeting will be on the 25th of Feb. I am nervous and anxious, but more importantly I'm ready for this now.

First off I wanted to say :welcome: to LBT!!!

Our ports are in different places, It all depends on the surgeon. Mine is located about a inch under my belly button and to the left about 3 inches.

I can't feel my port even when laying down but I know some here talk about how they can feel it.

I fell no pain during my fills. The Doc gives me a small shot to numb the area. I feel pressure when he finds the port and sticks the needle in. But NO pain. I do get shoulder pain after every fill. (I have had 7) Not bad I just take liquid tylenol and a Icey Hot patch and I'm good to go.:clap2:

If you use the search above you can probably find out a lot more on fills. I have pictures posted of one of my fills. I think the title is "my 5th fill" but a can't really remember.

Good luck and keep researching.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
