Hey Wayne,

I am Tammara, and I just did my first 5K this past weekend. It was called the FireFly 5k and it was held in Atlanta. I had a ball. I have been doing the couch to 5k program for a while and I decided to do the run. One of the best things I have done.

I also run with a group here in the ATL called Black Girls Run. They are the best and they keep me motivated to do more and more. I am also thinking of doing a 5K this Thanksgiving. I think that it will be fun!

And dont worry about finishing last. It is that you finished. BTW my run time was 48:01!!!!! and there were plenty others behind me!

"The miracle isn't that I finished. The miracle is that I had the courage to start."

Go get em!!!!!!

Tammara

I have done a few and have done some of the mud/obstacle races (Warrior Dash, Jailbreak Run & will do Hell Run next month). Running is not my favorite thing - do not like doing it but like the competitive part of 5k's. I really enjoy the mud/obstacle race - they are alot of fun. Don't worry about being last - go and have some fun.

I just committed to doing my first 5k on Thanksgiving! Haha its called the Turkey Trot (in NJ)

I dont run currently and just started Weight Watcher's Couch to 5k Program its a 9 week program that prepares you for a 5K.

The first day was pretty rough i live in a very hilly area so I am planning on driving to a flat area and trying it there tomorrow.

Good Luck you have to let me know how it goes!

Hi Wayne, it's great that you're running. Don't worry about finishing last on your first outing. Someone has to and you can't know in advance what the other runners will be like. Remember, this is your journey, for you.

Maybe one day I'll be brave enough to try running like you!

every morning in Africa the Gazelle wakes up and says to himself, "today I must be faster than the fastest lion", the Lion wakes and says "today I must be faster than the slowest Gazelle" Fast or slow doesn't matter, this is your race to run, go for your personal best every time. Good luck to you

I do 5 k's regularly and completed my first half marathon december of last year. I love the feeling of crossing that finish line...and i will say that i have never been more proud of myself than i was the day i crossed the half marathon finish line...i trained and i saw it all the way through. And as far as finishing last ...I have been there done that! You would be amazed at how many people are there cheering you on...just keep in mind that you may be inspiring someone...so keep your head up, a smile on your face and be proud that you crossed the finish line....first or last doesnt matter...as long as you are vertical when you do it! LOL!

Wayne, even if you did come last, you will be streets ahead of all the folk still at home in their beds. For that reason every entrant in a race is worthy of respect.

And you wont be last anyway. There's always amazing people like 95 year olds or disabled people and such getting out there having a go, who are happy to just be out there but generally come in way behind the average aged, average ability people.

5K is very achievable, you can train up for it in a matter of weeks and its short enough that you can run it with a bit of pace. Have a go, you'll get hooked and be doing 10k's before you know it and then you can REALLY burn some calories!

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
