Questions about paperwork/surgery

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone! I am super excited, I go for my consultation on Oct 11th. I am trying to get everything together so I can go through my insurance. So far, I have the proof of weight for 3 years, 2 of the 7 sheets that my doctor is required to fill out and all other paperwork filled out. If the doctor approves me for surgery on Oct 11th when does he actually file with the insurance? I will be done with all the mandatory doctors visits in Februray, I know he requires other test but, does he file everything once I have all 7 of the doctor sheets filled out? I know I will have to go on a 2 month diet, but I was hoping to start the diet in January and have surgery in March.

I had to go through a full year of requirements (10% weight loss, weight management class, psychological counseling) but once I had all of the requirements that my insurance company had, my doctor submitted the paperwork. There was requirement by the surgeon that I go to a three hour class on what to expect at the hospital before and after surgery and my diet post-op. However, since this was a requirement of the surgeon and not my insurance company she went ahead and submitted my paperwork. The surgeon's office said it might take 12 - 16 weeks to get approval but I was approved in a week and a half.

I think it depends on your insurance and your doctor for when things are submitted for approval. Good luck to you!

I hope your consult went well today. I had my consult yesterday!!! I'm so excited, but very nervous. The doctor approved that he will do surgery one me, he agreed I did need the lap band. The only things I have left to do is an EKG, finish 5 more doctor visits, and meet with a psychologist. Once I have all that done they will file with my insurance to see if I am approved!! He said once I am approved he can have me in the operating room in 2 weeks. So I am looking at having surgery in March!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
