Dreaming of Food?

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, I'm only 4 days post-op. I know that most of the pain I'm feeling is normal. Its nothing I can't handle really...just some gas and some tissue pain still from the incisions. I am actually NOT HUNGRY. I assume this is from some swelling still, but I could drink half a Protein Drink and feel full enough to burst. Not vomit... just really full!! So hunger is not an issue and I"m thankful for that, but I have been DREAMING of food almost every night since surgery. Last night I smoked an entire freaking brisket in a dream. I cannot believe how much my subconscious is missing food after only 4 days!! I am determined to make this work and I know there is no way I will physically slip up (There no way I'm putting solid food in my mouth until the doc says I can) but my mind is going haywire!!!

Anyone have similar experiences? I sometimes see a McDonalds and and mentally make a note to stop by and but some before realizing I an't do that any more!!

During the post diet liquid phase I dreamed about crackers. In the dream they were the best thing I ever tasted. I could taste them the dream felt so real. I understand what your going through!

Hilarious! :P I always say despite the band I have an inner fat girl that still thinks she can eat the refrigerator and then still go out for ice cream.:D I have been banded 19mts BUT I'd be lying if I said the bad food cravings and the unintentional "eyes being bigger than my stomach" episodes have ceased. I am an emotional eater and my brain wants to eat when Im happy, sad, mad, tired, bored and just because it's in front of me! Idk if that will ever go away? It's not quite as strong as it was in the early stages but maybe its like they say about an addict- you're never really cured? So always be on guard and try to learn the habit of moderation rather than elimination to keep you from going crazy once you introduce solids to your menu. Pretty soon you'll have dreams of all the new things you can do with your weight loss and food won't take such high priority anymore.;)

Funny -- I saw the tag line on your post and thought, "That's so ME!". I'm two weeks post-surgery, but for the entire time pre- and post-op, I've DREAMED about food all night long. I've always enjoyed cooking, and trying new types of foods -- dreamed of varieties of scrambled eggs for a week straight!

I'm thinking that in my case at least, it may continue. I quit smoking cigarettes over 30 years ago, but still occasionally smoke in my dreams -- so vivid I can actually taste the menthol in the tobacco (I think I was almost as addicted to the menthol as I was to the actual tobacco).

Hang in there -- mine have diminished a bit. I just got approved to go to "mushies", and have been thinking about those scrambled eggs for dinner tomorrow night! At least I'm thinking about those and not a dish of ice cream.

I am so glad that I saw this post. I am dreaming of food all the time and find myself watching the cooking channel alot. My mouth has been watering for some chicken and a sub. But I am not even that hungry, I just want it. I also find myself wanted to smell everyone's food and it actually satisfies me..wierd..lol. So you are not the only one. I know it is just my mind but I started the process and can't turn back now. I am just ready for some Soup or something. I am 7 days post-op.

This really made me laugh lol because for about a week and half after surgery all I did was fantasize about food, cheese burgers mostly.. But the fantasies went away after a while, once I started eating food again I wasn't daydreaming or actually dreaming about food or seeing my friends turn into french fries anymore lol.

I'm so glad I'm not the only one with the wild dreams.

In one dream I was in a hugh store with candy, candy, candy everywhere, I was totally lost in the store and kept thinking I found the way out only to be faced with another deadend into another room of the sweetest, creamiest, candy I ever saw, in my dream I was frustrated because I didn;t have any money with me so I couldn't have any of the candy.

In another I was baking a turkey, I kept checking it and checking it, finally it was done and was a beautiful golden brown but when I cut into it it was dried up to the bone inside. Guess I was worried about dry meat.< /p>

While ice cream is not really my thing I had a dream the other day about the new softserve at Burger King. I see their sign everyday on my drive to work.

See, if I'm around food all the time, I've been known to have a dream about cooking an awesome meal. haha. I would say, though, that as much as I LOVE the cooking and travel channels, I've found that they only compound the problem. lol. tongue.gif

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
