Healthy Snack ideas.....

Recommended Posts

I agree with pzeadow doing something with your idle hands and thoughts is the key to end the grazing out of boredom. I definitely keep low cal items on hand like mini carrots, string cheese, wheat thins, raisins, a slice of deli meat, etc which work great when if you're like me and sick of all the "sweet" snack supplements. But nothing changes a habit like truly changing a habit and not just supplementing it with a healthier snack. Eating at night or mindlessly constantly (even the good snacks) isnt a good habit to allow yourself to stay in so try doing something else to distract yourself and fill your need to go hand to mouth. For me, its coming on here and reading inspiring stories or answering unanswered posts from the newbies who need it most. It helps you and helps them.:D Maybe going for a walk, dancing or stretches when you feel the need to snack. And dont feel bad we're like food addicts and it is always a thought in the back of all our minds even those of us who have been successful, but as time goes on that voice will get quieter and easier to ignore especially with some restriction and healthier habits in place. Nothing starts routine. ;) Best wishes!

You are absolutely right NurseShay, it is a bad habit and it's one I would like to change. I know it's the reason I become overweight. It's a nightly struggle for me to get my mind off of grazing and onto something else. I think it's a fantastic idea to come on here and look at posts and respond to posts. It certainly does get you inspired. Thank you for the positive words!! Much love!!

Well my first fill was this morning and I received 2cc's in my 10cc band. It was painless with just a pinch of a needle. I am on liquids for 24 hours. I will admit though, I'm scared to death to eat real food. I have been able to eat anything the past couple weeks (breads have been no problem at all) and my doctor told me to be very careful because now that I have a fill eating will be very different. She told me to stay away from carbs as much as I can because they will likely get stuck and getting stuck scares me. I also gained 5 pounds since my surgery which is devestating to me. My doctor said that the first 6 weeks was a time of healing and not to beat myself up over the 5 pound gain because I still lost 11 pounds but it is very frustrating to me. My toughest time of the day is after 7pm. I seem to want to snack and I know that if I do feel the need to have a snack that it should be Protein or produce. Can anyone please let me know what some of your favorite healthy snack are?

Hi there. I was banded 7/26 and have had 3 fills since and I still don't notice any restriction. I have not had problems eating anything at all. Until I reach restriction what my fills have done for me is the loss of thinking about food all the time. I love not having those thoughts anymore. I don't snack often. I usually brush my teeth and that seems to help get rid of that feeling. When I do snack I have a Popcicle Fudge Pop (There are 40 calories in 1 serving of Fudgesicle sugar free Fudgesicles) or Wheat Thins w/ Laughing Cow cheese ( 2 wedges of LC cheese 70 calories & 15 wheat thins 120 calories). I can't do string cheese. It seems to dry and tasteless to me. Once in awhile I have the sugar free pudding and regualar popcicles. Love to hear more things from people.

I've been having the same issue. Night eating. I have tried Power Bar Pria bars. I put the mint chocolate ones in the fridge and when I need something sweet and chocolatey thats what I go to. They are only 110 calories and 5 grams of Protein. My problem is just stopping at one!

My night eating has become such an issue that I have cut out all sugar completely to see if that will help with the cravings. I am only on day 2 but so far so good. I also have set a rule of no eating at all after 8pm. I needed a good kick in the a** to get myself on the right track again. Whats that saying - It works if you work it! That is my new mantra!!! :D

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
