Hospital stay vs outpatient

Recommended Posts

I stayed overnight, my surgeon has all of his patients do it. Mmmmmm... pain pump. No kids waking up in the middle of the night. A tv I could control myself. It was heaven laugh.gif

I had to stay overnight because that's what my surgeon required. Quite frankly, I would have been fine to go home but if you have a lot of pain (I didn't) it would be nice to have the pain pump overnight to help you stay comfortable. It's not ideal...with the nurses checking on you and everything but you will most likely be tired enough to sleep in between their visits (and bring a book to read in case you can't sleep).

a book to read... hadnt thought of that! I was thinking of bringing crochet to at least pass the time, and then I remembered that the last time I took a percocet that it was interesting to just lift my hand so I figured I may end up with a seriously crazy looking project because of the drugs. The thought of controlling the remote is definately a plus too! I have not been away from my kids in 4 years and then was only for a death so the idea of staying away over night is kind of foreign territory too. I think I am at peace with it now and just have to deal with my daily nervous questions until surgery! Thanks everyone!

Patients who have had laparoscopic procedures and being discharged the next day usually do not have a continuous pain pump ordered for the night if they are not having severe pain control issues. You will get IV doses of pain medication as needed from the nurse but not a continuous infusion pump. Like a few people have stated, sometimes the docs just like you to stay over night and leave the next day for all the reasons listed. Sometimes the surgeons rest easier knowing you are being cared for through the night and not home on your own...

They sleep better :)

I didn't have a pain pump, but the IV morphine sure helped me feel better!

I did have a pain pump (even though I didnt really need it)...it probably depends on the surgeon.

I stayed over night. I had to get up every 30 minutes to pee so I would'nt have gotten any more sleep at home. What was a bummer was I did'nt feel like reading and my mother had taken my purse home so I could'nt pay for the TV. Sooo really boring night. My surgery got pushed back from 11 AM to like 4:30 PM so I was not even in the hospital 24 hours. I left the next day at like 11.00 am.

I am so glad my Doc didn't require a hospital stay. I was in the surgery center at 6:30 in the morning, in the surgery room at 7:30AM, and back at home in bed at 10:30AM. I had hydrocodone for pain, but I only took it for the first two days. It was basically in and out...I wouldn't change anything about that.

I had my surgery in an outpatient facility. I work there so I knew all the nurses and drs. It was great in at 7a and out at 2p! I probably would have enjoyed staying an a hospital overnight though.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
