jojo_lee 0 Posted October 4, 2011 Hi, I am now on day 5 of the pre-op diet. So far I have done 'ok'. I am supposed to only have 3 shakes and approx. 200 cals of green veggies for 2 weeks. I have slipped up a few times and had tuna &/or non-green veggies with light dressing (nothing major). I've been gaining weight. I had quit smoking about a month ago and put on 10ish lbs (this ALWAYS happens when I quit and is the main reason why I never stuck to it). I'm 5'6 and as a smoker I was 220, start of pre-op I was 230 and this morning I was 231.6. I understand with quitting smoking most people gain and weight does fluctuate. My main concern is my liver not shrinking and the surgery being more risky. Is it possible I could be hovering around the same weight but still getting the benefits of the pre-op diet? Hope that all made sense. Thank you!
nomrlz 1 Posted October 4, 2011 My nutritionist told me that it could take 5 or 6 days for signs of weightloss to happen. Don't be discouraged it so hard but the end result is so worth it!
jojo_lee 0 Posted October 4, 2011 Thanks! Just seems like I should be seeing some progress. I guess its nerves too. Hard to believe next week already is surgery.
KBaum 7 Posted October 5, 2011 Hang in there! I was told by the nutritionish that fatty, deep fried, junk foods cause your liver to become enlarged. tuna and non veggies are healthy - which shows you are making better choices and taking a step closer to a healthier life style. Keep your head up, it'll start to make a difference!
