Anybody else with a really active job?

Recommended Posts

My doc released me to go back to work last week. I was surprised, though, that he didn't list any restrictions for my return. I'm not allowed to work out with weights until at least 6 weeks post op, but he thinks it's ok for me to go back with no restrictions? I work 10 hour shifts and spend my nights bending, twisting, and lifting 55lb boxes. Thankfully, I work with great people and instead of making me work by my lonesome, someone came in to help out. I still managed to hurt myself by lifting something that did not weigh that much at all and had to take the next two nights off work. So I'm curious about others that have jobs that require heavy lifting or other physical demands. Were you ok going back or did you also have to take it really slow?

On a side note, I was supposed to have an appointment this Wednesday for a fill, but had to reschedule because I just can't afford it. (Especially with being out another 2 days last week.) Unfortunately, the next opening available isn't until Nov 2. I'll get by. It will just give me extra time to heal before having to deal with a fill.

i was released to go back to work 1 week after my surgery, but was placed on "light duty" as i do alot of walking and sometimes have to lift patients, i work in healthcare. after that one week of light duty, i was back to my normal activities, including working out. just don't lift if you can help it, you will heal soon.

Did you tell your doctor the type of work you do? I think most people are okay to go back to work after a week, but if you have a very physical job that can be different. At the very least he should have put some restriction on going back. I have a desk type job and I returned after 5 days. I was sore abd bloated for a few weeks and didn't lift anything heavy.

Hope you feel better

Hello all... This was something that really scared me in the beggining. I am a truck driver and I also work on the docks on a forklift. When I hook a set of trailers i have to lift this thing called a converter dolly that weighs almost 3,000lbs. Its on wheels but it is very heavy. then Im also opening up trailer doors, picking up packages, and climbing in and out the truck & forklift. Besides that just riding in the truck hitting bumps and railroad tracks send me bouncing and my stomach is always moving and jerking. So i spoke with my job and they have okay'd me to be off for awhile. We also have short term disability which i am eligible for so i can stay off work until I am truly sure I'm ready to go back. I believe if you weren't ready you could've told your doctor to give you more time but I know its hard being off work and not being paid because life and bills go on... Im very thankful for the benefits of short term disability cuz if not i don't know what I would have done. I hope everything goes well with you and try to be careful and take care of yourself. you are whats most important in this factor. So make sure you put you & your health first. Good luck and much success with everything!!!

I also have Short Term Disability, but they'll only pay me as long as the dr says I can't work. I did tell him what I do and gave him a copy of my job description. I think he just didn't think about it when he was filling out my paperwork. I am feeling better this week and am making sure to take it easy and not do too much.

I am a UPS driver I took a week and a half off working days I made sure to come back on a Thursday so I work two days and was off for another two , if you have a really physical job then at least take two weekends off and a week , even after the time off I was still sore to touch that area for a couple of weeks

My doc told me I could go back to work in 5 days. I'm a nurse, work 12-13 hour shifts and often lift over 50 lbs by myself. There is NO WAY I couldve gone back after 5 days

I'm a LVT (a nurse for animals), I'm on my feet 10 hour shifts, bending into cages, lifting animals, etc. I went back after 7 days, I felt I could've gone back sooner. I even dug my car out of under a foot of snow to get there. Though I avoided lifting animals over 25# for the next 2.5 weeks. Also the way my schedule is, I worked one day then was off for 2 more. I could've continued to work if my schedule worked that way though.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
