Ladies .....Maybe a stupid question but

Recommended Posts

Okay I'm just days away from surgery, and I've read tons of stories on here and I've seen picture of where the incisions are and I'm curious to know if, wearing a bra was an option after surgery. Did the bra get in the way or did it help. I'm large chested and I wonder if it will help or hurt more to wear a bra? What has been you experience? Thanks in advance !

Ive got big breasts and had no trouble wearing a bra. My port incision is just below my bra line, another is just above, but no problem.

I wore a bra afterwards and it irritated the incision below sternum and still does. I wore soft bras which helped. It may not touch depending on bras u wear and your physical make up

The first thing I did when I woke up from surgery was go in the bathroom and put on my bra biggrin.gif I'd suggest a non-underwire if you have one, just for comfort's sake, but otherwise I didn't have any problem with a bra.

I had one small incision right where the bra line is. It still bothers me and seems to be the only incision that is taking a bit longer to heal than the others. My doctor told me that all the women complain about this one incision. He recommended to either A) dont wear a bra for a while B) wear a soft bra, no underwire bra or C) put a bandaid on that incision spot and wear or not wear whatever. I opted for option C and had to put a bandaid there becuase it was just pain to wear any type of bra. The bra just rubbed it all day long, be it a soft bra or the underwire kind. I wish they had moved that one incision either a half an inch either way and it wouldn't have mattered!! Oh well, good luck and hopefully yours will not bother you!!

One of my incisions gets irritates by my bra. I tries on all my bras--they all rub on it. I just cover it w/ a bandaide while im wearing a bra. Dr said to just go braless at home an take the bandaid off which is what i do anyway.

I asked the dr to put it somewhere else since someone told me it sticks out just below the breast. He put it just to the left of my belly button. In my opinion, there is no perfect spot. I have trouble wearing jeans since it hits the spot when I sit down. Good luck!

One of my incisions is right under the band to my bra and my bra still sat above it and didn't irritate it. I have a short torso (I am 5 ft tall so everything is short, lol) and I was fine. My surgery was 3 weeks ago today and that top incision is the one the glue came off of first and it healed great. My port one is down by my belly button so it is just a small one, about a cm under my bra.

I was home for about a week and a half after surgery and I just didn't wear a bra. I went back to my underwire bras after that and it was just fine.

im the same as Chrissy.....size G and i didn't wear one because one of my incisions was right on top of it. No problems now, but i have to say that on some days when i wear a bra that is tighter around my chest, i can feel better restriction... go figure.

Nichole it what ever your comfortable with....Hope you all be best of luck with your surgery.

I'm very large chested too. I have a tiny incision at the top of my belly, it's pretty high up so after surgery when I wore a bra it hurt, but only when I was sitting for more than a few minutes. Doc said to wear a bandaid on that one until it healed completely, it's probably my smallest incision but took as long as my biggest one to heal because of my bra rubbing against it. After about a month I was fine, it didn't hurt anymore. BTW, I always wear underwire bras, and the incision is just under where the 2 wires meet between my breasts, so while sitting it would really irritate me from the rubbing, I'd recommend a soft cupped or sports bra for a while.

I have big breast and it hurt me to wear a bra after surgery. I went to kohls and got the barely there pullover bras. It's enough support and it feels like a t-shirt. They have no wires and look kind of like a sports bra. I wore those for about 3 weeks. They cost about $11 each.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
