meal replacement shakes

Recommended Posts

Ok guys i have been not eating Breakfast as i am not a typical breakfast eater so i get up at 6am and about 10 i start getting hungry which i was an early luncher at 11am so i have been doing the Meal Replacement bars/ shakes from 9:30 to 10 am this holds me over until i get home at 6:30pm then i am eating a regular meal. This keeps me under the calorie intake for the day or right where i need to be if i meet it. Rarely over it . But my question is if i make myself do one for breakfast and lunch then eat supper or if i eat a normal lunch and then do the meal replacement for dinner will any of these combinations make me lose weight quicker i am in my 5th month of the dr supervised weightloss diet. So Oct 10th will be my 6th visit for that so we will start with the appts for the pysh eval and the nutritionist and the surgery consult. I know they are going to require me to do the only liquid diet for the two week prior to surgery so i am trying to get used to the Protein Shakes. Any tips on how to optimize the effectiveness of using these?

I prefer mine for lunch. I guess since work, I always got mine in at lunch, and later on have my dinner.

I always had a little Breakfast to help hold me over.

We were told that the Protein shakes give you Energy, like fuel in the Tank. So don't drink them at night, because it could keep you up for a while.

Now if true ? I never tried to find out....

I would also drink them maybe 1/2 hr., before I work out. I noticed that it did give me more energy, to get into it a little more.

It wont make any difference in and of itself, but if you eat more calories at dinner than lunch, for example, it might make a difference. Id do Breakfast coz its easy although my breakie would seldom have more calories than a shake anyhow. Id find dinner much easier to replace than lunch as my appetite often switches off in the evening and ive never been a nightime snacker anyhow.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
