TracyNYC 4 Posted October 2, 2011 I know we are not supposed to take Ibuprofen products, but I did something to my back. The Tylenol is just not enough. I stay away from Ibuprofen, but will it 'do something' awful if I take it for my back? Somehow, Advil seems to work better on muscle things like this. I even tried light exercise to work it out. Not a good idea. Will probably see GP tomorrow. Thanks for any insight. Tracy
njm 0 Posted October 2, 2011 I wouldn't take ibuprofen and I totally agree with you about Tylenol. Call your surgeon and find out why can be prescribed that you can take and that take that info with you to the back doctor. For today, if you have any of your surgical pain meds left take them. I was given a liquid vicoden that was great.
Jess55 97 Posted October 2, 2011 Personally, my doc says the no ibuprofen rule is really for bypass patients and he has no problem with me taking it.
Cindy C 150 Posted October 2, 2011 My doctor says ibuprofen is ok. If you're going to take vicodin you might as well take tylenol. They are both made of acetaminophen.
onmyway11 43 Posted October 2, 2011 Wow! Boy I miss advil. Especially right after surgery. My doc said it sits at the top of tha band and eats away at it. I asked about the liquid form he said better but not great.
TracyNYC 4 Posted October 2, 2011 Thanks. I finally took 3 Tylenol and slept. Better, but not great. I will call surgeon or GP in the morning.
njm 0 Posted October 2, 2011 Here is what I was prescribed after my lap band surgery. Hydrocodone-Acetaminphen Soln which I under stand is liquid vicodin. Best stuff I've ever taken for pain an I was an Advil junkie. You can't drive and take it, but if you're home or ay bed time it's great.
shakey88 37 Posted October 3, 2011 I also have back problems and was taking 800 mg ibuprofen before surgery...It sucks now that I can not take it. The liquid vicodin I have from surgery helps about as much as tylenol
cheryl2586 3,053 Posted October 3, 2011 I have taken ibuprophen for over a year now with NO ISSUES. I need it and I take it and make sure I take it after a meal just as you would have before surgery. It doesnt stay in the pouch because its small enough to pass through the hole.
TracyNYC 4 Posted October 3, 2011 I had a slipped band and had always taken the advil, so I am a little worried that I may have done some damage with the advil before my new band. I may take 2 before bed.
