What insurance? Wait 4 approval?

Recommended Posts

If you are fortunate enough to have insurance that will pay for the surgery, what kind do you have and how long did it take to get approved?

Aetna. They required a three month supervised diet for me. Once everything was submitted insurance took 3 days for approval. Surgery was two weeks later! It went by fast for me.

Well I have BC/BS of Alabama and although my paperwork has not been submitted because I have to do a 6 month diet, Dr. T said it would only take a couple of days and he would have me a surgery date!!! Now if I could just get through these 6 months of anticipation.

I have Tufts it was a 6 month program called "I can change". Im pretty sure they want you to think "i can change my mind about surgery" I had to have phone interviews every month with my advisor. It was fine as my hospitals program was required and it was the same amount of time. Just funny. Once I graduated approval was immediate.

Thanks for all the replies! Hope everyone is doing good! I'm just anxious about how long approval will take.

My husbands insurance was through the local Pipefitter and Plumbers Union. I did not have any pre-evaluations, pre-approvals, or anything. As long as you had been with the Union for over 5 years they pay 100% of my surgery and everything. There was no waiting at all, just scheduling of the surgery! Lovin' my insurance

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
