Recommended Posts

I wanna know if anyone has cheated on the post op liquid diet. I mean how r they gonna tell ME a (former Fat person) I can't eat for 2wks but can only be on liquids. I don't know how I'm going to manage I'm almost a week down but I'm finding myself getting more an more tempted to reach in the pot an sneak a taste of something. Anybody else going thru the same thing as me??? Please HELP!!!!

Everyone is tempted to cheat during the first few weeks following surgery.

I don't know if you can consider it cheating, but I did shorten my stages by a day or 2 depending upon how I felt.

You really need to stick as closely to Doctor's orders as possible so as not to risk damaging the band or your stomach. Everything is still healing...so you need to stay on the straight and narrow for the time being. After that, it won't hurt to indulge from time to time.

The reason they are telling you a Former Fat Person to be on liquids is so that your stomach can heal from the major surgery that you have had. If you don't stick to the post op diet you may do damage which could lead to your band slipping, not now but at some point in the future. Yes it's hard, we all know that, we've been there too but the diet is there for a reason. If you are struggling drink more often, drink thicker liquids. I made lots of homemade Soup with things like vegies and chickpeas, lentils or Beans for extra Protein and blended them to the right consistency. They were very satisfying. Remember the 2 weeks are only a very short time they will soon be over.

You can do this.

At this point your motivation should be really high which should also help to get you through.(if you can't follow your Dr's instructions now then you might not end up being a Former Fat Person).

I can honestly tell you that I was on liquids for 2 weeks before surgery and didn't cheat...I was on Clear Liquids for 1 week after surgery ...then regular liquids for the second week after surgery.... then the third week after surgery I was on mushiesand I did not cheat ....I made a commitment to myself to follow my doctors orders said that I would be successful with this lap band ..

did I think about food ...yes quite often .....but my head was in a place that just didn't allow me to stray from the things I was allowed to consume .I cannot tell you if I would have been successful if I would have steared away from the doctor's plan.... however.....I made the decision to get a lap band and to be successful therefore I wasn't taking any chances .

I cheated big time. So not worth it.

I felt like my stomach was going to explode, literally. It was so painful too.

If you must cheat eat cream Soups.

DON'T DO IT, PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!

Had surgery today!

Blood sugar dropped crazy low and i was pale,

so i had a spoon-full of extra smooth Peanut Butter watered down a bit and a SF Popsicle.

Feel fine in my belly.

just sore at incision sites.

I didn't cheat on the post op diet (but I did a little on the pre-op diet). I was too scared to do anything dangerous to my band... I did think about it, but stopped myself every time; so you're not weird to be wanting to cheat, seriously, it's normal! Good luck with your band!

I'M only 3 days post op and yes im tempted. I have to prepare food for the rest of my family so it's hard. I'm on clear for one week then full for a week. Then pureed. I won't have regular food until 9 weeks post op. But my surgeon said the people that are most successful with the lap band are the ones that can follow the rules the first few weeks post op. That was enough motivation for me to stick to the rules.

Oh to cheat or not to cheat. It is hard to stand at the stove preparing a meal for the family and not dip a big spoon into something. I didn't cheat, but my doctor's office allowed me to have the full liquids the second day postop and have cottage cheese now that I'm 5 days out. I know I was just ready to chew something, and it didn't really matter what it was. Always check with you're doctor so you can stay the course...and read this forum.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
