Sensitivity to Band

Recommended Posts

I was banded in April 2011. A few days after surgery I had to have Fluid removed because stomach so swollen I couldn't get liquids down. Ended up in ER and had to have fluids. I have had two fills since that time and the last one in July put me at baseline, which is the amount of fluid in the band at the time of surgery, and I could not tolerate it. I could not eat any solid food as it would come back up after the second or third bite. Took some fluid out and at times solid food really bothers me after a couple of bites and it comes back up. I have been following diet, exercise, etc. and losing at a very slow rate. Was told I am just sensitive to band. Has anyone else had this problem?

Yep ! I know how you feel ! ! !!

I am sensitive to my Band, and this Halloween I will have it for 6 years.

If I am to tight it will always get stuck, and come up.

So I stay a little lose, and drink warm Water with whatever I am eating.

Sometimes that can include a Protein shake Also. So a thinned out shake being chased with warm Water so it goes down.

Before you say NO WAY ! Let me tell you what I do.

I fix myself something on the mushie side to eat, get a glass of warm water, relax and slowly eat a couple bites, then slowly wash it down with warm water.

I keep a slow pace, because if I get hyped, I will get stuck. So slow and steady.

My surgeon told me that I am to sensitive, so if it works go for it.

I belong to myfitnesspal.com so I keep track of my calories, and Protein on that site.

Then I am good for the day...

You might want to try it, (THAT'S UP TO YOU) but sense you will probably be nervous, be prepared for it to come up.

would start with something that has water in it, or is creamy like cottage cheese or yogurt.

Good Luck, and feel free to P M me anytime.

I do understand this.

Shirley.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
