pain collar bone/neck area

Recommended Posts

Was banded less than 12 hours ago. I did OK,with the exception of this pain in my collar bone and neck on the left side. I am assuming it's the gas shoulder pain everyone talked about, but I can't seem to find any relief. I tried gas-x, T3 (only a 1/2), i've propted myself up on a couple of pillows-don't own a recliner, I've been drinking Water and sleeping on and off. It's 1:30AM so a walk is a little out of the question. Not sure what else to try. It's very painful. Other than that, so far so good. But if you have any other suggestions, please let me know.

Thanks!

Honestly, walking is the only thing that helps. Walk up and down the hallway... I know it's so annoying, I wish I could tell you some magical cure :( Good luck

Walking, heating pad and, unfortunately, time will help. Seriously... The hearing pad saved me. It gave me enough relief to allow myself to fall asleep. Hope you feel better soon!

I've tried one of those heating bags you heat up in the microwave, which helped in the evening. But now in the middle of the night, not so much. I tried ice for a but. Now I've got the heating pad on it, but still feel the pain & cNt really sleep. I've put on some relaxation music & am just resting. I'm sure time will help. Thx for the advice.

Hanging in.....

A hot shower helped me. Try to get the Water as hot as you can stand it and try to focus it on the sore areas. Hope you feel better soon.

I was told that horrible pain, on the left side of your neck and shoulder area is from the gas from surgery or your band hitting the nerve next to it. Either way, the only way to make it go away is to walk, walk, walk, and oh did I mention WALK. I was also told to raise your left arm above your head and rub the shoulder with your right arm. This does help and can sometime relieve the pain in that area because you are displacing the nerves that run in that area. This is straight from the doctors mouth, not mine. I did what he said, walked and if the pain came then would shoot my left arm straight in the air and walk some more. It should NOT last more than 30-45 minutes and if it does to call the doctor IMMEDIATELY. This pain should NOT be all the time or a continuing problem and should go away completely after several weeks. During those first few weeks you can have some episodes with the pain, but it should not last hours on hours!

Call your doctor!! You paid for them to help you through this process! They will know what to do and give you GREAT advice on how to handle this situation. :)

Take more pain meds! Half anT3 is like spitting. Just the tylenol alone dosage wise is less than a regulat strength over the counter tylenol. I am sure your doc prescibed 1-2 every 4 hours or 6 hours. I would take the 2 every how many hours you can... No sense in being a marter- they give us pain meds for a reason! And all the other things folks mentioned too. Hope it gets better!

You can try all those things that people have suggested and they will give you minimal, temporary relief. At the risk of sounding like a broken record I will say this once again.....GO TO A CHIROPRACTOR! Have him adjust your mid-back. The "cracking" sound you hear is the sound of gas being released from your joints and that is exactly what's causing the pain. It will give you instantaneous relief! Of course the gas will build back up and you will need to go back about every 2-3 days for the first couple weeks.

I would follow cindy's advice: a week after surgery I went to the chiropractor and went to get a message and I felt like a million bucks! I wish I would have done it sooner.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
