Mitral Valve Regurgitation??

Recommended Posts

My surgeon had me get a Dobutamine Echo/EKG/Stress Test due to the fact that I have been having shortness of breath. She called me yesterday to tell me that my tests were negative and all was well...or so I thought. She called me first thing this morning to tell me that she had a coworker look over my test results and they noticed that one of my valves isn't closing all the way. She said that I had to see a Cardiologist and have them clear me before surgery. If this is what it is, will I still be able to have the surgery? I am 25, I've never heard of this before...I searched the forums but I didn't see anything else out there.. any help!?

I have a friend that has recently been diagnosed with this. She also doesn't have a lot of info and is not sure how it will affect her life. Hope all your questions are answered soon and that you are able to get your band.

I have mitral valve regurgitation there really isnt anything they treat you with. I had the band with no problems. They just monitor it. It is where the valve doesnt close all the way causing the blood to flow back instead of forward. You probably have a heart murmur that is how they found mine of course I am a lot older than you but I dont think it will affect you in anyway as far as surgery. Its not really treatable but liveable. I have not had any problems with mine and I have had it for ten or more years. I wouldnt worry about it affecting your surgery.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
