Damander 11 Posted September 27, 2011 My surgeon had me get a Dobutamine Echo/EKG/Stress Test due to the fact that I have been having shortness of breath. She called me yesterday to tell me that my tests were negative and all was well...or so I thought. She called me first thing this morning to tell me that she had a coworker look over my test results and they noticed that one of my valves isn't closing all the way. She said that I had to see a Cardiologist and have them clear me before surgery. If this is what it is, will I still be able to have the surgery? I am 25, I've never heard of this before...I searched the forums but I didn't see anything else out there.. any help!?
elcee 3,341 Posted September 27, 2011 I have a friend that has recently been diagnosed with this. She also doesn't have a lot of info and is not sure how it will affect her life. Hope all your questions are answered soon and that you are able to get your band.
cheryl2586 3,053 Posted September 27, 2011 I have mitral valve regurgitation there really isnt anything they treat you with. I had the band with no problems. They just monitor it. It is where the valve doesnt close all the way causing the blood to flow back instead of forward. You probably have a heart murmur that is how they found mine of course I am a lot older than you but I dont think it will affect you in anyway as far as surgery. Its not really treatable but liveable. I have not had any problems with mine and I have had it for ten or more years. I wouldnt worry about it affecting your surgery.
