Newbie here on wait list with Kaiser. HELP

Recommended Posts

My dr just informed me that I am morbidly obese. Yah tell me something I didnt know. I guess it is the word Morbid that got my attention this time. I am 5'3" and weight 242. have dieted for 32 years, food has controlled 90% of my life. He has suggested I go through all the motions at Kaiser in Denver. My first meeting is next week. Does anyone have any suggestions for me? I should lose 100 pounds. Of course I have many times over added up in my life time. He also stated that the wait time is 8 months. Not sure if that is true or not. Maybe they just say that to see if a person will do all the classes etc. that is involved. Has anyone been through Kaiser and can tell me what it is like?

its a very slow and painful process. You have to be dedicated and it will work. I would recommend anyone wishing to get control to take this step. I have had great success. It hasnt been easy, With the band you still have to be disciplined and willing to be patient....very patient.... I would do it all over again. Oh and remember when reading postings on this site that a lot of people only think about posting when its something negative and are having issues. If you check out all my postings I have made you will get somewhat of idea about my last year. Good luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
