well its been a hard week... i was upset to see that some said it was the "easy way out". this is the hardest thing ive had to do.. learn how to eat!!! We are program to eat.. And some of us just know to eat bad or too much.. My family loves food. im the only one with the weight problem.. go figure.. Before kids i was skinner than any of them.. Life throws us curves and like any addiction mine happens to be food. Does a person who is a drug addict go to Rehad taking the easy way out? To all my Band bloggers!!! Have a Rockin Day!!!

I know it's hard but you have to avoid taking on someone's bad preconceived notions or outright ignorance. You are responsible for you, this is how you go on to help those around you, by taking care of yourself. Everyone in the world can have an opinion on your choice, but it is you alone who needs to live with it. To those who say it's the easy way out, I say come and do the pre-op and post-op diet without cheating. It takes a strong willed person to go through this. I hope you find nothing but success with this and do not let the opinions of others color your very difficult decision.

Anyone who thinks this is the easy way out is a moron.... or at best uneducated... Either way I would dismiss them from my radar.... and if its a close family member I would thank them for their opinion and never discuss it with them again....no matter how much they probe. But that's just me. You just cannot fix stupid.

I agree on the not lying part...I'm looking at having my gallbladder out in the very near future as a result of the weight loss so if I had told people I was having gallbladder surgery before what would I say now? My kids thought I had a flu or something in the few days of recovery and no one else was the wiser.

Only my husband and dad and stepmom know I've had the band and I'm glad about that. When people ask what I'm doing to lose I start the list: going to the gym lots, cut out a lot of carbs and then I describe how I use a salad plate instead of a dinner plate and while I cook the rice/pasta/potato sides for my family I usually skip them and then usually they ask another question that leads away from the list of what I'm doing so I can reason that I never finished the list which would have included the surgery. And to be honest, I didn't get restriction til probably 4-5 months after the surgery so it was a TON of hard work in the beginning. Now I'm at restriction and when I try to veer off track, I don't get very far because I just can't eat fast and after a few bites I can talk a bit of sense into myself to get back on track. In the old days I would have been able to stuff a dump truck of calories into me before I got the sense to stop.

So it's up to you what to say but keep in mind that while you may have a lot of positive support, you may have a few naysayers so you need to decide what you're willing to accept and go from there.

It's never a good idea to lie. Eventually the truth will come out. Better to just say, "I had an en elective procedure. No big deal! How 'bout those Red Sox?!"

Yeh, how about those Red Socks? Can you spell Home Run with 2 Outs?

I have told anyone who asked, especially those who are overweight. I didn't want them to feel like a failure for not losing weight when I did. I have had nothing but support. Also I live in a small town where gossip is king, if I didn't tell them they would make something up like I was dying. It's true, some people who hadn't heard thought I was really sick. The weirdest thing is this week I saw a bunch of people hadn't seen since surgery, none of them recognized me. I've known the al for 15 years or more and they didn't know it was me.

There sure were a lot of surprises that night. Sox lost after being ahead 3-0....Rays beat the Yanks after being behind 7-0...Texas's 2 run shot in the 9th. i love baseball!!!

Your beloved Tigers are going to have to get past the Rays or Sox first. The Yankees will be busy giving the Rangers a thorough thrashing, which lines CC up to counter your beloved Verlander twice as well. Those two games will come down to offense. I like the Yankees chances.

Now see I would love to say the Rangers will win this but after yesterdays game I would be the one asking for a lashing! But noone counted us in last year and who ended up in the World Series???? We will see whoever in the World Series- watch out! ;-) Go Rangers!

But to the question. I say that I am just watching what I eat and Portion Control.< /p>

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
